“S.O.S” – By Des Kelly A simple distress signal, “SAVE OH SAVE” used generally  as a Naval exercise, when a ship is in trouble, has come into mind with the tragic news, just to hand, that two lives have been lost, with another seven persons now missing, due to the worst bushfire emergencies that this Country has ever faced, at the moment, both in Queensland & New South Wales.      The Government of Scott Morrison is doing everything possible to help, with the Prime Minister making himself available for several television interviews, promising to do whatever he can financially, to ease the burdens of literally thousands of Farmers & Country-folk involved.      I need not go into details on this “Breaking Bushfire Crisis”, as I am certain that everyone in Australia would be fully aware of the present situation by now. As I said, the Government is ...

Reports: Sri Lanka to rope in Jonty Rhodes as fielding coach, Brett Lee as bowling coach Source:Cric Tracker Jonty Rhodes and Brett Lee. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Sri Lanka are having a roller-coaster ride on the cricket ground in 2019. While they won a Test series in South Africa earlier this year, they had a poor run in the ICC World Cup. Recently, a second-string Sri Lankan side though lost an ODI series against Pakistan, they came back strongly to win the T20I series 3-0. It was a great achievement for the team under a new captain in Dasun Shanaka and the islanders will hope to build on the success ahead of their campaign at the T20 World Cup in Australia next year. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is making efforts to avail the services of former South Africa player Jonty Rhodes as the fielding coach and former Australia speedster ...

THE PARSI’S OF SRI LANKA – By Des Kelly There is a “saying”, it’s not what you know, but WHO you know”, and this is very true. Parsi’s did not abound in Sri Lanka or the Ceylon, I knew, yet, as I remember them, Parsi girls were some of the prettiest in the Island. No names or pack-drill, as they also say, but I did know one or three of these beautiful lasses, and, for those of my readers that recall this tiny Community, the complexion of Parsi women, in my opinion, was flawless. Skin colour is irrelevant. It really does not matter what colour you end up with, you are normally born “pink”, & you are “grey” at the end of your day,  the Sinhalese are quite often, dark-skinned, Tamils sport an even darker skin-tone, Burghers are generally fair-skinned, but, the Parsi gals I knew had olive complexions that ...

Prime Minister – Media Statement – Sri Lanka – Sunday 21 April 2019 THE HON SCOTT MORRISON MP Prime Minister MEDIA STATEMENT Sunday 21 April 2019 Sri Lanka  The Australian Government condemns these further terrorist attacks that we’ve seen, bombings in Sri Lanka of Christians as they went to worship on Easter Sunday and bombings in hotels, all coordinated as part of a deadly terrorist attack. Sri Lanka hasn’t seen this form of violence since 2009 when the hostilities ceased in that country and there are many Australians who are regularly travelling in Sri Lanka. Our mission in Colombo will be following through on the safety of those Australians. I would encourage any Australians who have any information about their family or their friends who may be travelling in that area or who are seeking further information, to call the 1300 555 135 number and pass that information on to ...

“Aiyho, what to do men”? – By Des Kelly Nothing, really. Although this this “exclamation” is most popularly used in the South Indian State of Tamil Nadu, & Tamil-speaking parts of Sri Lanka, generally, also Malaysia & Singapore, believe it or not, the word originates from China. How it would actually be “written” in Chinese, I would not know, but what I do know is the fact that China, as a Country, would have very little reason to utter this quote, as their population seems to be growing twice as fast as any of the other Nations involved & they certainly know what to do (men), without us, from Sri Lanka providing the answer Desmond Kelly.  Star of eLanka. (Editor-in-Chief).     ...
