NOT WHO, BUT WHY ? – by Des Kelly Thank you, Keith Bennett for these perplexing ponderings. We should know the answers to the questions, but if the Author of this “post” is 85 years old, he/she has nothing to worry about, because I am now 86 and still do not know any of the answers either. Let’s just say that whoever is responsible for the ponderings now ponders no more, and leave it at that. Makes for interesting reading however, so here’s hoping that one of the brilliant book-worms of e’Lanka might be able to give us an answer or two, in order to enlighten us. I also take this chance to ask our e’Lanka readers to please COMMENT on what they find interesting on the BEST website for all Lankans & OTHEES around this World of ours. I promise, every  comment will be scrutinized and  adequate action taken in ...

“POINTS TO PONDER” – By Des Kelly I believe that some “Ponderisms”, as the quaint name suggests, have already been aired on e’Lanka, many moons ago, to the enjoyment of our valued members & readers, and lo & behold !!, here are a few more, to begin a brand new year, with. Points to ponder are something that everyone should do from time to time, simply to keep one’s brain “ticking over”, as it should. Reading them, in quality websites such as e’Lanka (of course), only adds to the common knowledge that everyone should possess. After you read this lot, I am willing to bet that you will think about those you favour, from time to time, and may I conclude this introduction, thanking Keith Bennett for sending them to us. These are indeed some “Points to Ponder”. Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief) eLanka. ...

MUSIC, MUSIC, MUSIC – by Des Kelly     “IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LIFE, PLAY ON”, is a phrase that is common everywhere, and in every walk of life.  “MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THESE” – By Des Kelly             Coming to e’Lanka via Gerard Salomon and Keith Bennett, for which we thank them, is this wonderful video of a duo of supremely talented “Stars” of the silver screen, namely Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire, the latter being definitely the Best Ballroom Dancer of his era and beyond, and the former, (although Ginger Rogers was Fred’s main dancing partner), in my own humble opinion, Rita Hayworth was, by far, one of his most beautiful partners in their dancing sequences on film. In addition to dancing, Rita, who was, I believe, Fred’s favourite dancing partner, and who can blame him, hit the movies with spectacular films such as “Cover-Girl”, in which she also danced with Gene Kelly, one of Fred’s main competitors, in hoofing it, to put it mildly. I think I have made my point, ...

“DEFINITELY DIFFERENT DEFINITIONS” – By Des Kelly   Sent in specifically for e’Lanka, by Keith Bennett, for which we thank him, are the above “D”s, all three of them. Just shows what can be done with this superb language (ENGLISH), that is now becoming even more important in both Sri Lanka and Australia, where there are Drastic multitudes of Damned languages to cope with, (believe me),my alias is Desperate Des, this Daft, Deadly, Definitely, Different,   ...

“IF DRINKING DON’T KILL ME”!! – By Des Kelly   This came to me (I really cannot understand why) !!, via two famous Burgher buggers (only jokin, guys), Gerald Vandergert & Keith Bennett, either of whom are not averse to the odd drink or three, I think, because I, me, and myself also kinda liked the booze many years ago. Both Gerald and Keith should know (hopefully), that for the past 30 years or so, cold water is my only drink. I have not touched alcohol of any sort, don’t miss it, and have lasted as long as I have, because of it. Sounds unbelievable, I know, because, during my term with the Royal Ceylon Navy, WATER was the only drink I never partook of. Nothing to brag about, but we Navy guys drank anything we could get hold of, except water. I once downed a bottle of arrack ...
