“MORE PONDERISMS” – by Des Kelly With my apologies to those who have pondered these ponderisms before, I did ponder on whether to publish these particular “beauties” on e’Lanka again and decided to do so simply because the ponderous pharaphaneliya (yes, I ponder and/or wonder if I have spelt that right), that Keith Bennett sends us from time to time is primarily important for the poshest website (in simple English), in Australia. Also gives me the chance, immediately after Valentine’s day, this year, to dedicate a wonderful song, to whom it may concern, tying in with the above ponderisms. This is how I like them and here’s hoping our wonderful readers will enjoy both the poetic song and the subject as stated above.   Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka. Pondering Ponderisms  Why do peanuts float in a regular coke and sink in a diet coke. Go ahead and try it.  I ...

(Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka. ...

“SUCH IS LIFE” – by Des Kelly   One of Australia’s most famous (or notorious), if you prefer him as such, was Ned Kelly, Outlaw & Bushranger, as they preferred to call them, in Oz. Ned, like your’s truly, came from an Irish background, Dublin, in fact, and got himself the reputation of being an Australian Robin Hood. He stole from the rich to give to the poor. The rich were not too happy about this, and decided to give Ned a hard time. This is not the complete story, obviously, but still an apt intro. Into this amazing video, sent to us by Keith Bennett via Suntha, someone who thankfully shortened his Surname, so that everyone could pronounce it correctly. Anyway, when they finally caught up with old Ned, they escorted him to the old Melbourne gaol, or jail, if you prefer it as such, and hanged him by ...

(Editor-in-Chief) e’Lanka.   If you love word play….These will make you smile… 1. Dad, are we pyromaniacs? Yes, we arson. 2. What do you call a pig with laryngitis? Disgruntled. 3. Writing my name in cursive is my signature move. 4. Why do bees stay in their hives during winter? Swarm. 5. If you’re bad at haggling, you’ll end up paying the price. 6. “STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS” – by Des Kelly   There are many such stories, but at least this is a “happy one”. Once again, e’Lanka thanks Keith Bennett for sending in this great song/story combined. She needs no introduction whatsoever, but Anne Murray, one of my favourite female Country Singers does a magnificent job of singing the song (behind the true story), but please don’t forget the crippled guy who also does his version, right after the last dance is over, and to make a long story short,  following the lady, cos “ladies come first, even to the gallows”, as the famous  saying goes, & his introduction. ??   Desmond Kelly. (Editor-in-Chief) eLanka.   The Drifters made it a hit in the 60s. Canadian Anne Murray sings it beautifully on stage…”Save the Last Dance”. The songwriter, Doc Pomus, was crippled, but his wife or girlfriend loved to go out and ...

NOT WHO, BUT WHY ? – by Des Kelly Thank you, Keith Bennett for these perplexing ponderings. We should know the answers to the questions, but if the Author of this “post” is 85 years old, he/she has nothing to worry about, because I am now 86 and still do not know any of the answers either. Let’s just say that whoever is responsible for the ponderings now ponders no more, and leave it at that. Makes for interesting reading however, so here’s hoping that one of the brilliant book-worms of e’Lanka might be able to give us an answer or two, in order to enlighten us. I also take this chance to ask our e’Lanka readers to please COMMENT on what they find interesting on the BEST website for all Lankans & OTHEES around this World of ours. I promise, every  comment will be scrutinized and  adequate action taken in ...

“POINTS TO PONDER” – By Des Kelly I believe that some “Ponderisms”, as the quaint name suggests, have already been aired on e’Lanka, many moons ago, to the enjoyment of our valued members & readers, and lo & behold !!, here are a few more, to begin a brand new year, with. Points to ponder are something that everyone should do from time to time, simply to keep one’s brain “ticking over”, as it should. Reading them, in quality websites such as e’Lanka (of course), only adds to the common knowledge that everyone should possess. After you read this lot, I am willing to bet that you will think about those you favour, from time to time, and may I conclude this introduction, thanking Keith Bennett for sending them to us.
