Farewell message from Fr Ruwan Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I am writing this email to inform you all that I will be leaving Sydney to return to my dear mother Sri Lanka on the 28th of July (this Thursday).  I thank each and every one of you for giving me the opportunity to serve you, and for all the support extended to me by your caring, providing meals, and even monetary assistance given towards my studies. I also request and urge you to support and participate in the forthcoming fundraiser organized by the SLNSWCA. As you all know the funds collected will be navigated towards a few charities in our country, which is the need of the hour for our own brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka. Hence, I presume that you would actively and generously participate in the food fair.   You are most welcome to come to my place of ...

Spring Fair to lift our moods during lockdown By Lawrence Machado Lockdown or no lockdown, next month’s Sri Lanka NSW Catholic Association’s Spring Fair is shaping up to be a joyous and entertaining event. SLNSWCA secretary Christian Don-Rukantha said because of the lockdown, they will be holding their inaugural event online on Saturday, October 2. The event is one of the major events in the association’s calendar and will feature musical and comedy acts, dance routines, magic shows and anything which can be performed online via Zoom. “This is our first Spring Fiesta because we have been in lockdown and haven’t been able to host any physical events,” Christian said. “The purpose is purely for entertainment and to take people’s mind off the lockdown; It is a free event and there is no fundraising initiative.” Christian said the association needs the support of the members and non-members to make it a successful ...

Sri Lankan Chaplain completes first year in Sydney – Catholic Chaplain Fr. Ruwan Pradeep Source: LanCatholic – Quarterly Newsletter of the Sri Lankan New South Wales Catholic Association Volume 1 Issue 1 August 2020 Sri Lankan Catholic Chaplain Fr. Ruwan Pradeep completed one year of his term in July. His first year has been ‘hijacked’ by the COVID-19 pandemic which unfortunately impacted upon the most important period of the Catholic liturgical year when the Sri Lankan Catholic Community would have seen Fr. Ruwan celebrate his first Lent and Easter with them. The usual Palm Sunday outdoor Way of the Cross had to be cancelled as well as the other Easter Triduum services. However this was no impediment to Fr. Ruwan stepping up to the challenge of moving up the technology scale to provide his ministry online. He was open to the SLNSWCA initiative to participate in prayer meetings and deliver ...
