“The season of 1968 is etched in the memory of all Royal Rugby fans. Royal, after an outstanding season thrashed a highly talented and skilled Trinity Team led by that fine No 8, and later Sri Lanka Captain Ajit Abeyratne. The first leg was a record 19-3 win for Royal at Longden Place, where Royal dominated possession and territory. Chitta Ranjan de Silva (Bulla), “The General” at prop led from the front in a famous victory.
The 2nd leg of the Rugby at Peradeniya was a nail-biter, to say the least. Dilanjan Soyza, the Royal winger scored in the first five minutes for Royal and burly prop C.T “Tikka” de Silva converted from the corner flag, with his toe kick. Trinity swarmed all over Royal for virtually the rest at the game and Royal down to thirteen men with two badly injured players tackled Trinity to a standstill, to win 5-3 “
