CANON BOWYER-YIN & THE SCHOOL BY THE SEA Source:Stcobasydney Reverend Canon Roy Henry Bowyer-Yin MA (Cantab) was Chaplain and Choir Master at S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia from 1946 until 1962 most of it during Warden de Saram’s time. His older brother Leslie Charles who preceded Fr. Yin to Cambridge, writing under the pen name “Leslie Charteris,” was the celebrated novelist, who created The Saint. His detective and mystery stories were made into films in the USA with The Saint played by a young Roger Moore. A daughter’s recollection and tribute – Corinne King   Source:stcobasydney.org I am Corinne King (neé Pereira) – the daughter of the late Douglas Noel Pereira – a dedicated teacher of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia from 1951 to 1972. Also, known as Mr D.N. Pereira – (Douglas Noel), (D.N.P.), (D.N.) or otherwise known as “Bulto” to the many hundreds of students he taught during his long teaching career.  Dad was known as “Bulto” a nickname he received at STC in the early 1950’s – around 1953/1954 when as a light smoker he decided to take to sucking the black and white striped lolly called “Bulto”! My classmate Mr Maurice    Mr. Maurice was one of the greatest teachers in the history of S.Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia. He started his career on the 1st of October 1970 until the 5th of August 2011. For nearly 41 years of service he dedicated and sacrificed his life to his Alma-Mater. For the contribution he had done to the school to make it better and the work he had done to develop the students’ knowledge, Sir this is a tribute for you from your lovable students in S.Thomas”. Source:Dailynews Naveen Henakankanamge went on to captain S.Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia 1st XV School rugby team as well as the Asian under 18 cup championship winning Sri Lanka team for the first time in the country’s rugby history. Naveen represented the Sri Lanka national under 20 Sevens team and fifteen a side rugby team in the Junior Rugby Asiad. He also represented Sri Lanka national senior 7’s and 15’ a side with distinction. He represented club rugby teams CH and FC and Havelock Sports Club in the inter club rugby tournament. At present he is domiciled in Australia. Incidentally he is the younger son of legendary Sri Lanka player H.K.Sisira of Navy fame.
