It was a well patronized event and the first time such a large group of Peterites had all been together in one place. The outstanding venue (with views of Port Melbourne Harbour on 3 sides) was very elegantly decorated by Manisha Watts. A lavish souvenir and Tie pin were given as complimentaries to attendees. The souvenir included a comprehensive history of college over the last 100 years written by Johann Gunasekera together with a history of the Melbourne OBU over the last 40 years and a hilarious “Down memory lane “section. Music was provided throughout the evening by George and Shehara of “Redemption” The evening commenced with a ...

Errol Knower – by Richard Simon ( Farewell, Atahualpa – by Richard Simon) source: notesfromceylon.blogspot.com Visiting the mortician’s parlour to pay his last respects to the remains of Errol Knower, one of Errol’s former teammates on the crack athletics squad that St Thomas’s College fielded in the mid-Seventies reminisced to his fellow mourners how, on track days, Errol – always a dedicated truant – would sit with his louche, unathletic cronies at a tea-kiosk up on the Galle Road, smoking and telling funny stories, listening all the while with half a ear to the voices of the meet marshals calling events and results over the PA system on the school grounds below. When they called an event he was in, he would drink up his tea, stub out his ‘fag’ and race down the hill, arriving at the starting-line just in time for the gun. He would then run the race without ...

Richardson was left out of the squad for the Pakistan tour as selectors opt for a long-term approach with their young quick, and after watching the Aussies claim just four wickets in the first Test, he said he remains comfortable with the decision to skip the series. Shane Warne…a legacy hard to parallel –  By Trevine Rodrigo in Melbourne Just a couple of weeks ago, I was one of a few million people who enjoyed the theatrics of Shane Warne on Foxtel’s coverage of a T20 game between Australia and Sri Lanka.  The legend and undoubted King of leg spin was needling one of his partners in crime, Mark Waugh in the commentary box, siding with the Lankans who were in low ebb after the series had been decided, suggesting he was moving across to the Sri Lanka dressing room. Warne openly professed on that day, after being quizzed by co-comentator Brandon Julian, about his love for Sri Lanka and it’s people who openly embraced him during his success while touring with the Australian team.  “I love the Sri Lankans and their people and their warm hospitality, it’s a special place in the world for me and ...

Why Sri Lanka will be no push-overs for India – by Trevine Rodrigo (eLanka Sports editor) (Photo by Daniel Kalisz/Getty Images) Source:theroar.com.au Doomsayers in Sri Lanka are bracing themselves for a whitewash by the Indians in the two-Test series, but I have a gut feeling that the tourists will be no pushovers. Dimuth Karunaratne leads a Sri Lankan outfit unusually sitting at the top of World Test Championship rankings currently in its infancy. The Lankans are a team looking for resurgence and they are stacked with a blend of youth and experience. But expert predictions strongly suggest they will be blown away by the powerful Indians led for the first time by Rohit Sharma. The emotional attachment by Indian fans celebrating former skipper and cult hero Virat Kohi’s 100th Test may lift the home team and fend off any possible challenge. India will be in the process of evolution under ...
