CHILDREN WITH CANCER

An open letter to all “Lankans down Under” by Desmond Kelly

I do’nt really know how many of you good people are interested in “Aussi-Rules” football but, last night, Thursday, the 25th of August,2016, had me “glued to the box”on Channel 9, watching “The Footy Show”, which was a very special “Telethon” supporting the Royal Childrens’ Hospital in Melbourne, and, even more especially, ” Children with Cancer”.

All the “Footy-Stars” & other “special celebrities” were there, in person, supporting this most worthy cause and “performing various stunts” like trying to kick a football into a bucket a few metres away.

It was all very interesting, the “donations” kept coming in via the dozens of telephones afforded the special “guests” and then suddrnly, here was this Mother & her young daughter, a beautiful young girl whose hair was just beginning to grow again after the chemo-therapy sessions she had obviously been through to try and beat the cancer in her body. Mother & Daughter, close together, were interviewed, and not even the hardest heart in the entire World would have not reached out for a tissue with which to wipe away the tears. There was no “acting” here. Hopefully, the little girl will eventually be cured & will be able to go back to a normal life, but Cancer Research does not happen by wishful-thinking alone. Unfortunately, once again, it takes MONEY to do these things and this is the reason for my letter to you.

Like so many others, you may have already donated to the plea from the “Footy-Show”. I hope they made a million or more, but it never stops, my friends. As all of you know already, I am an extremely grateful & proud Lankan/Australian, involved with others of the same ilk who, like me, want to do our best to help, in any way we can, those WORTHY of help.

I believe that our Monash Medical Centre in S.East Melbourne is on the verge of “opening” another Cancer Hospital, including a new “Childrens’Wing” to treat our Junior Citizens. My heartfelt plea to you is this.

LET US GIVE, AS PROUD “LANKANS DOWN UNDER”, WHATEVER IT IS POSSIBLE TO GIVE THIS NEW CANCER HOSPITAL SO THAT THEY, IN TURN, MIGHT SAVE THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO BE “HIT” WITH THIS DREADED DISEASE. THANK YOU.

Via “eLanka” (Neil Jayasekera), “The Lanka Times” (Michael Fernandez) & others, too numerous to mention right now, we have decided to give our effort as much publicity as possible and then leave it to you. Where the donations are to be forwarded will shortly be explained. ANYTHING will be gratefully accepted. I will request Neil to include this letter to my “page” on the eLanka web-site. Stay with it, my friends, make your “comments” & contact me on 03-8-789-1932 or
e’mail me on :- dkelly2u@gmail.com

Thanking you again, in anticipation, Desmond Kelly.
