Be wise, Don’t eulogise – By Charles Schokman
Be there for the living. You don’t need to record attendance when one is dead. In history, as in Life, regret does not bring back a lost moment.
We all go through different seasons in life, people come and go in our lives. Sometimes we remain close to some and others we are no longer as close as we once were. This is particularly relevant as we age.
Yes for sure we can still make an effort to call and connect with people, but it gets difficult with aging, illness and distance.
This does not diminish the sadness or connection we have to someone who passes or to the connection with their family. Often funerals are a celebration of one’s life and so the socialising and remembering is actually a very important part of grieving, reflecting and saying goodbye to the person who has passed, as well as lending support and comfort to the ones left behind.
I think it is both good to try and stay connected but also it is good to say our goodbyes and celebrate one’s life.
Be wise, Don’t eulogise and don’t celebrate is to send the wrong message to those grieving.
