Asha Bhosle, the legendary Bollywood singer and cultural icon, has passed away at the age of 92, her son confirmed.
The legendary queen of Indian playback singing passed away in Mumbai after being hospitalized following a heart attack. Her passing signals the close of an era in Bollywood music, with a career that stretched over eight decades and included more than 12,000 songs.
Bhosle’s unique voice brought countless film songs to life as actors mouthed along to her unforgettable tracks. Her strong presence in Bollywood inspired the 1997 Cornershop hit Brimful of Asha, and she also gained international recognition through a collaboration with British musician Boy George.
The news of her death has seen an outpouring of tributes on social media.
