Sri Lanka’s representative at the 73rd Miss World Festival, fashion designer and model Prathibha Liyanarachchi, has secured multiple top placements in the competition’s fast-track challenges, marking a significant achievement for Sri Lankan representation on the international stage.

According to reports published by Lanka Business News and Daily FT, Liyanarachchi reached the Top 24 in Beauty With a Purpose, the Top 23 in Talent, the Top 24 in the Sports Challenge, and the Top 60 in the Top Model competition. The results reflect a broad performance across social impact, creativity, athletic ability and fashion, rather than success in one discipline alone.

Competing alongside representatives from approximately 100 countries and territories, Liyanarachchi demonstrated the versatility expected of a modern international titleholder, while also placing Sri Lankan design, craftsmanship and community-focused enterprise at the centre of her Miss World journey.

Four notable fast-track results

Liyanarachchi’s strongest result was achieved in the Beauty With a Purpose segment, where her social-impact project, Hoop The Label, was selected among the Top 24 projects worldwide. The initiative was also recognised among the leading projects from the Asia and Oceania region, reinforcing the international relevance of its approach to women’s empowerment and sustainable craft.

In the Talent challenge, she was placed among the Top 23, a result that highlighted her creative ability in a field that brings together contestants with diverse artistic and performance backgrounds.

She also reached the Top 24 in the Sports Challenge, demonstrating her capacity to perform in a competitive physical discipline, while her selection among the Top 60 in the Top Model competition further acknowledged her presence and professionalism in fashion presentation.

These rankings represent individual fast-track achievements and should not be confused with the overall Miss World result. Liyanarachchi did not claim an individual challenge victory or the overall title; the significance of her performance lies in the consistency of her appearances across four distinct areas of the competition.

A purpose-driven project centred on Sri Lankan artisans

The central social-impact element of Liyanarachchi’s participation was Hoop The Label, a sustainable artisan project designed to support underprivileged and rural women in Sri Lanka through craft, training and market access.

Through the project, women artisans are provided with opportunities to develop their skills, receive guidance and transform traditional creative knowledge into products with commercial value. Training and mentorship form an important part of the initiative, as does the creation of sustainable income-generating opportunities that can strengthen household financial security.

The project is particularly relevant to Sri Lanka, where generations of artisans have preserved skills in textile work, handmade products, design and other forms of traditional craftsmanship, although many skilled producers continue to face restricted access to markets, limited visibility and inconsistent income.

By connecting artisan knowledge with contemporary design and broader commercial opportunities, Hoop The Label presents a constructive model in which cultural heritage is not treated merely as a historical subject, but developed as a living source of employment, dignity and enterprise.

Liyanarachchi’s background as a fashion designer has been instrumental in shaping this approach. Her professional experience allows the project to combine design development with social advocacy, creating a platform through which the work of Sri Lankan artisans can be presented to international audiences in a contemporary and accessible manner.

The initiative also reflects a wider movement among Sri Lankan creatives who are seeking to connect local materials, inherited techniques and responsible production with new markets. Similar themes have been highlighted in eLanka’s coverage of Sri Lankan innovation, where creativity and practical enterprise are presented as important contributors to community advancement.

Prathibha Liyanarachchi during her 73rd Miss World journey

Prathibha Liyanarachchi represented Sri Lanka across the cultural, creative, sporting and fashion-related segments of the competition.

Representing Sri Lanka through design and creativity

Beyond the formal challenge results, Liyanarachchi used the Miss World Festival as a platform to promote Sri Lankan creativity through her clothing, accessories and presentation.

Her participation brought attention to the country’s designers, makers and artisans at a time when cultural representation is increasingly communicated through carefully considered design. Clothing and craft, in this context, serve not only an aesthetic purpose, but also carry stories about place, skill, heritage and the people whose work sustains those traditions.

The international setting gave Liyanarachchi an opportunity to introduce elements of Sri Lankan creativity to fellow contestants and audiences from around the world. Her work also demonstrated how a national representative can use a high-profile platform to discuss practical issues, including women’s economic participation, sustainable production and the importance of supporting small-scale creative communities.

Her performance was therefore broader than a conventional fashion or beauty achievement. It brought together advocacy, design, public representation and competitive participation, allowing Sri Lankan identity to be communicated through both personal accomplishment and community purpose.

A milestone for Sri Lankan representation

The four fast-track placements have strengthened Sri Lanka’s presence at the 73rd Miss World Festival and created a notable record for the country’s participation in the competition.

The Beauty With a Purpose result is particularly significant because it recognised a project with a clear social objective and a direct connection to Sri Lankan communities. The Talent, Sports Challenge and Top Model placements further demonstrated Liyanarachchi’s range, showing that her participation extended across several dimensions of the festival.

For Sri Lankan audiences at home and abroad, the achievement offers a positive example of how international representation can be linked to practical initiatives. It also illustrates the value of presenting Sri Lankan culture through contemporary enterprise rather than limiting it to ceremonial displays.

Liyanarachchi’s work with Hoop The Label has placed artisan empowerment at the heart of her international appearance, while her fast-track results have provided a measurable indication of her performance among a highly competitive field.

The final result

The grand finale of the 73rd Miss World was held in Nha Trang, Vietnam, on 5 September 2026, with the overall crown awarded to Miss Dominican Republic. That result does not diminish Sri Lanka’s achievement, which was established through Liyanarachchi’s historic performance in the fast-track challenges and the international recognition received by her Beauty With a Purpose project.

Her four top placements, together with the visibility created for Hoop The Label, represent a meaningful accomplishment for Sri Lanka. They have shown how fashion, design, cultural identity and social responsibility can be brought together within an international platform.

Prathibha Liyanarachchi’s journey at the 73rd Miss World Festival has consequently been defined not by a single result, but by a sustained and versatile contribution. Through her performance and her artisan project, she has presented a constructive image of Sri Lanka: creative, capable, socially conscious and determined to build opportunity through talent and purpose.
