Oshini

At 22, her achievements are awesome and that is precisely why I refer to Oshini Perera as ‘Awesome Oshini.’

She excelled at the A/L exam, was a national level netball player, won many championships in dancing, singing, acting, finalist at a beauty pageant, and more!

What makes Oshini extra special is that she also has plans to start a welfare society to support women.

I also need to add…she has a large following on TikTok.

And, this is how our Chit-Chat went…

01. How would you describe yourself?

My friends and family would describe me as an inspiring woman. And, that’s because, at a very young age, I established myself as a strong, independent, educated woman. I worked so hard towards achieving my personal and career goals…at the same time, spreading love and kindness towards people who are in need of help. Hashtag: Humanitarian.

02. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

As humans, we are not perfect, we make mistakes, we learn from them. I don’t think I need to change anything about me, but, definitely, I need to keep improving. We are all unique in our own way. I am who I am because there is no one like me!

03. If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?

Family means everything to me. I have five members in my family. I have a great family, filled with happiness and skills. My younger brother is an award-winning singer in Sri Lanka – Viraj Perera. I am the youngest. I have an elder brother who is an international chef. We don’t get much time to spend together since we are super busy with our careers. We should spend more time together and that’s one thing I would like to change about my family.

04. School?

I studied at Sujatha Vidyalaya Nugegoda. I was a bright student – did well in academics and in non-academics. I passed the A/L with flying colours, with high Z Score, and got selected to a local university. I was a national level netball player. I won many championships in dancing, singing, acting. My dream was to become a lawyer, then I started doing LLB with University of London. I studied about aviation also, as a backup plan.

05. Happiest moment?

I still can remember that day when I became a finalist at the Siyatha Miss Universe contest. I couldn’t believe that I got selected as a Finalist. When I was applying for this contest, I had zero experience. I knew nothing about modelling because I had just turned 19. Among the final 12 were contestants who were lawyers, doctors, cabin crew, etc., and I was there, too. It was a happy and proud moment for me.

06. What is your idea of prefect happiness?

Happiness can be different in many ways. There is no perfect definition for happiness. For one person, happiness can be living a healthy life, or for someone else it can be money, or relationship. All I have to say is that you are responsible for your own happiness.

07. Are you religious?

I was born as a Buddhist, but Jesus is my saviour. I love all religions.

08. Are you superstitious?

No, I am not.

09 Your ideal guy?

Interesting question! My mother always told me when you are choosing a guy for your life, you are not choosing a man for yourself…you are picking a father for your children. So, I will definitely pick a good man, with my children in mind. He should be educated, financially stable, well behaved and a trustworthy person.

10. Which living person do you most admire?

Definitely my mother…and my grandmother, too! I was raised by strong women. My grandmother was one of them. She played a big part in my life – she was always there for me. She helped me so much. I learned so much from her. And I inherited her voluptuous figure. I am nothing without her.

11. Which is your most treasured possession?

My most treasured possession is memories which I collected over the years. My ups and down in life. Lessons I learned. Success is not a destination, it’s a journey. I’ll continue to collect more memories.

12. If you were marooned on a desert island, who would you like as your companion?

Oh, I would definitely need someone who can guide me to survive – and that’s my mother. She has always been my saviour, during difficult times. And, she is my guardian angel.

13. Your most embarrassing moment?

When my family got to know I was having an affair with a boy when I was doing my A/L. It was so dramatic at that point of my life. All the lectures from family were embarrassing.

14. Done anything daring?

According to me, life is filled with adventures. The more you take risks, you are more likely to succeed. People always try to play safe – 8 to 5 job is what most dream about. But, I’m different. I invested my money, at a very young age. I started a small business. I was a model and an actress at the same time. It was too much for me to handle because I was doing my LLB degree full time. But, somehow I managed it all, and I’m doing great. One must remember that, as women, we are good at multitasking.

15. Your ideal vacation?

Visiting other countries, exploring different cultures, diving, sipping a napoleon mocktail, would be wonderful.

16. What kind of music are you into?

I am a huge fan of Beyonce, but I cherish all types of music

17. Favourite radio station?

YFM and 1010 WINS New York

18. Favourite TV station?

Local would be all channels but I am an addict of Netflix

19. What would you like to be born as in your next life?

I have no high hopes about my next life, but definitely to be born again as a daughter of my mother. Next life, as in a fantasy, in a big private island, as a mafia queen! Lol! So funny!

20. Any major plans for the future?

Definitely, yes. Now I am 22. I wanna complete my law degree and attain attorney status in Sri Lanka. And, I want to turn my small business into a big brand and establish myself as an entrepreneur. And, to stay fit and gorgeous! I have always been a giver so will definitely start a welfare society to support women, to achieve their dreams. And…to keep making my parents proud.
