Brief History of the ‘Voluntary Outreach Club’

VOC

The Voluntary Outreach Club (VOC) had its origins in 1982 (incorporated in 1988) as a charitable organisation to send financial assistance to the disadvantaged in Sri Lanka, most of whom, by reason of socio-economic conditions, have been left in impoverished and destitute conditions. We are a registered Charity with the ACNC.

The conditions for the disadvantaged in Sri Lanka have not improved since then and there is still a very real need for any help which can be given. The ever-increasing cost of living is a great burden to so many and the help from the VOC is greatly appreciated and anticipated.

Currently the club supports 88 entities, comprising 55 families and 33 single people. Family Units receive Rs.6,000 per month and single people receive Rs.5,000 and we send a Christmas and mid-year bonus of the same amounts, so twice a year they receive double the normal amount.

Each application is carefully vetted by the Committee and information supplied is thoroughly checked prior to approval. Monthly remittances are sent to Sri Lanka and amounts to over $30,000 per year.

The VOC Funds are maintained through Member Subscriptions of $15 per year per single and $30 per year per couple, as well as fundraising events including the New Year’s Eve Dance, a mid-year dance and a couple of lunches. We are also fortunate to receive donations through the year to help us reach the $30,000 expense.

The New Year’s Eve dance is our biggest fundraising event and we look forward to your support and contribution. If you are unable to attend the event, you could help by taking out an advertisement or a message of support in the souvenir or making a donation to the Club. Souvenir costs are $500 for the back page, $300 for inner front or inner back page, $150 for a full page.

Bank details are: Bank – Bendigo Bank; Account Name – Voluntary Outreach Club; BSB 633-000; Account No: 228273983. Please record your name as the Reference. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and hope you will join us to ring in the New Year.
