British Council now offers English courses in Gampaha

Continuing a long-standing legacy of excellence in English language education, the British Council recently announced the opening of its newest English Centre on 28 January 2026. The new English Centre is located in the heart of Gampaha city and will cater to students from ages six and above as well as adults and working professionals, bringing internationally recognised English language learning closer to the Gampaha community.

With over 90 years of experience teaching English worldwide and nearly 80 years of service in Sri Lanka, the British Council is a trusted global authority in English language education. The new English Centre in Gampaha will deliver high-quality programmes aligned with global British Council standards, ensuring learners receive education that meets international benchmarks.

The opening ceremony was attended by invitees including school principals from across Gampaha, Zonal Education Directors, and other key education and community stakeholders, reflecting the Centre’s commitment to working closely with the local education ecosystem to support learners in the region.

Speaking at the opening, Orlando Edwards, Country Director, said: “Gampaha has long been a hub for education in Sri Lanka. This new Centre will ensure that students in and around Gampaha have access to quality English education with greater convenience. We are proud to expand our presence here and support learners in achieving their academic, professional, and global aspirations.”

The British Council English Centre in Gampaha provides learners with ready access to trusted English language teaching that will improve confidence, communication skills, and employability. Through a learner-centred approach and modern teaching methodologies, students are empowered to unlock global opportunities with an enhanced command of English.
