Brooklyn based Australian/Sri Lankan artist ELSZ, releases dreamy new single ‘Bright Eyes’ in New York

ELSZ is a producer, harpist, vocalist and dancer, living most of her life between Australia and Sri Lanka, she is now based in Brooklyn, New York.

ELSZ spent the past 8 months in Sri Lanka, much of her time was spent learning her family art of loom weaving, producing new material for a full length project and working with Alt Ctrl Shift collective to create performance platforms on the island for women and queer identifying people to share their art . ELSZ often performs solo, augmenting the sound of her self made harp and vocals with motion sensors and controllers, her live shows are otherworldly and evocative.

Bright Eyes was co-produced by ELSZ and Grant Jefferson and recorded at New York Cities oldest recording studio Sear Sound with Grammy award winning engineer Jeremy Loucas. ELSZ explains “Bright Eyes is about opening to love again in the aftermath of violence & heart break and celebrating that feeling. It took me three years to recover and to open to love again , to be able to trust myself and trust someone else, but that process is non-linear, I still feel myself open and close, it is both softening and strengthening.”

ELSZ released her debut single ‘Poison’ on International Women’s day, the 8th of march 2016. The song is a raw and vulnerable personal account of ELSZ’ personal experience in an abusive relationship. The song is dedicated to victims and survivors of gender based violence. “I chose to record both Bright Eyes & Poison at the same time, because they are each others counterpart – Love & Violence. The process of recording ‘Bright Eyes’ was much harder than it was recording ‘Poison’. I guess love makes us feel the most vulnerable”

The past year ELSZ played shows in Australia, Asia and America, she was invited to play at festivals such SXSW in Austin Texas, EMC in Sydney Australia, BIGSOUND Brisbane Australia and Women of the World in Colombo Sri lanka.

ELSZ will be releasing the single on the 19th of October 2017 . C’mon Everybody in Brooklyn will be hosting a ‘Bright Eyes’ release party on the 22nd of October, supported by local artists & friends NAIMA, Stranger Cat, Riki Stevens & drag performer LaTrine.
