Everlasting songs

“THIS IS LIFE”.- By Des Kelly Both of them started their lives never dreaming of the “Stardom” that was to come their way. Tammy Wynette and George Jones, their names would have to be known by ex-Lankans & others, even “settled-down” at the moment, at the centre of the Arctic Circle, so very famous, are they. Both started far from affluence, George, having to join the Marines to “help” a large, but impoverished family, Tammy, actually picking cotton as a very young girl, prompting her to always keep a bowl of cotton-wool in her home, even after stardom.      As I have always said (& written), the term “this is life” could not be better said (or sung), in anything but Country Music. The harshest critics of this music will have to agree that Country music, especially by these two, will bring tears into the eyes of the listener, ...

“FOR THE FIRST TIME” by Des Kelly For the first time, a song composed by Jessi Colter, beautiful, talented performer, wife of “Country Icon” Waylon Jennings, has been “covered” by many Artistes, simply because it is a great song. eLanka readers have been promised that only the very best musical clips will be chosen by “yours truly”, for your listening (and viewing pleasure), and this is no different.   One of the BEST Country singers is none other than Gene Watson. This is easy to see, through almost every song he sings. Here, “For the first time” is a trifecta of Grene ` songs for you, dear readers. If you enjoy superb music, written by extraordinary song-writers, performed by “STARS” of Country music, sit back & enjoy G.W. performing 3 top hits, this one, “-For the first time” getting him into the limelight, in Nashville surroundings, “And then, you came ...

“YES OR NO”? – By Des Kelly      It is on the news in Australia right now. All my Lankan/Aussie readers will probably seen “this case” on television a couple of dozen times already, as this medium, along with the “Press” repeat “breaking news”, as they call it, so often, people do become blaze, and, after a while, lose interest in the story altogether. Because of this, I refrain from using the “names” of the people involved in this one, suffice to say that ” the age of consent” here, is what we are talking about, the age of consent for sex, as a matter of fact.        This IS a somewhat different story though. This young female goes out to enjoy herself at some venue one evening, being alone, this young guy asks her very politely for a dance, hardly gets the chance to even find ...

“THE MIGRATION “MESS” by Des Kelly Because I write especially for eLanka, I will concentrate on Lankan/Aussies only. Migration, around the World, is a total “mess”. There is no need to go into details about this “sad subject”. It goes on everywhere. People  “migrate” only because they are unhappy with the various situations in their own Countries. Seems to me, that a new Planet will soon be needed for all these migrants, which would be a good thing for “them” & for us, as well.      Let me start with Sri Lanka, which, like India, got her independence from Britain in 1948. As far as I am concerned, neither India nor Sri Lanka (Ceylon, as it was known then), should have got this independence for another 10 years, at least. 1958 would have been a much better Independence anniversary, although, even then, much trouble was brewing between India & Pakistan, ...

“TRIBUTE TO JUDY” – By Des Kelly First, of course, there was Judy Garland, actress, singer, entertainer extraordinaire, whom anyone even minutely interested in “showbiz” & “screen”, will remember. It does seem to be ages ago, but even the movies of days gone by had a variety, all of it’s very own, involving music & drama, “classy” actors & actresses & unforgettable “memories”. Before I get carried away, Judy Garland’s “story” is not what I write about today, this will come later. My eLanka readers will realize that I try my very best to bring them as much “interesting stuff”, as I possibly can. My “choice” of music might not interest everyone, but,the music, art & drama presented by eLanka to over 20.000 regular members, are appreciated, if only because my “stories” are a little bit different, my “music-clips” are “chosen ones” from thousands now freely available to internet viewers, ...

“WILLIE WALTZES” – By Des Kelly Another outlaw, another multi-talented individual, another member of the “Country rat-pack”who, together with guys like Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, & Kris.Kristofferson set the “Country-Music World on fire, touring, entertaining thousands of “fans”with their “outlaw-style” music, Willie Nelson has always “been around,” writing great songs, singing them (rather nasally), when I first heard him, but, in a style similar to Frank Sinatra, who was supposed to be the most “technically” perfect singer of all time. Willie Nelson sings many of his songs, phrasing the lyrics, sometimes completely out of rhythm, but still completely in cadence, which is by no means easy to do. He also plays an old broken-down acoustic guitar, named Trigger (after the favourite horse of old cowboy star, Roy Rogers), still plays it to perfection, backing himself expertly in the process. Unlike many of his “buddies” who have sadly now passed-on, Willie is ...
