Connect & Cheers 3 celebrates the power of Business Diplomacy and International Connections – By eLanka

The Australian Business Summit Council (ABSC) successfully hosted the third edition of its popular Connect & Cheers networking evening, bringing together an impressive cross-section of Australia’s diplomatic corps, business community, government representatives and community leaders for an evening dedicated to strengthening international relationships.

Welcoming guests, Dr Frank Alafaci, President of the Australian Business Summit Council Inc., outlined the vision behind the Connect & Cheers initiative, describing it as a platform where diplomacy and business can meet in a relaxed environment to build genuine, long-term relationships.

“Some of the most important relationships in business and diplomacy begin with a simple introduction,” Dr Alafaci remarked, highlighting the value of informal conversations that often lead to new partnerships, investment opportunities and international collaboration.

The evening attracted an outstanding representation of the diplomatic community, with Consuls-General, Consuls, Honorary Consuls and diplomatic representatives from numerous countries joining Australian business leaders, chambers of commerce, local government representatives and community organisations.

Rather than viewing networking as simply exchanging business cards, Dr Alafaci encouraged attendees to embrace what he described as purposeful connection — relationships built on trust, curiosity, mutual respect and genuine collaboration.

He spoke passionately about the role of the Australian Business Summit Council in creating opportunities that complement the work of governments and diplomatic missions by providing an independent platform where meaningful connections can flourish across cultures, industries and national borders.

The audience also heard about Economos, ABSC’s international business affairs magazine, which continues to promote discussion on international trade, investment, innovation, diplomacy and economic development through contributions from respected leaders around the world.

A recurring message throughout the evening was the growing importance of Business Diplomacy.

In an increasingly interconnected global economy, Dr Alafaci noted that successful international engagement depends not only on government agreements but also on trusted personal relationships between businesses, institutions and communities.

Australia’s multicultural diversity was recognised as one of the country’s greatest competitive advantages, offering unique cultural understanding and international networks capable of strengthening Australia’s engagement with the global economy.

As the evening drew to a close, Dr Alafaci expressed his sincere appreciation to the diplomatic community, business leaders, government representatives, volunteers and ABSC members for their continued support of the organisation’s mission.

Special acknowledgement was given to Councillor Sylvia Alafaci, Secretary of the Australian Business Summit Council, whose dedication behind the scenes was warmly recognised as a key contributor to the success of the event.

Guests were then invited to continue the evening by making new introductions, exchanging ideas and building the kinds of relationships that may become tomorrow’s business partnerships and international collaborations.

The evening concluded with a toast celebrating diplomacy, business, international cooperation and friendships formed through meaningful conversation.

As the Connect & Cheers series continues to grow, the Australian Business Summit Council is further establishing itself as an important bridge between diplomacy, business and community leadership, helping to foster stronger international engagement and new opportunities for Australia.
