THE CAUSE

The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami aected 35, 322 people in Sri Lanka. Of this number several thousand lived along the Eastern seaboard of Sri Lanka. The Batticaloa Teaching Hospital was over crowded by the vast number of injured, maimed and traumatised victims seeking urgent medical attention for their injuries and predicament. The sta at the hospital worked tirelessly for days with help from local and foreign volunteers but the lack of resources, medical supplies, operating theatres and equipment made the task very dicult and exposed a dire need for modern well equipped emergency and accident hospitals in the poorer parts of
Regional Sri Lanka.

The Foundation Supporting a National Trauma Service in Sri Lanka was formed in 2011 to make the Government of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Health aware of the urgent need to improve Public Hospital A&E Trauma facilities throughout the country and Batticaloa was chosen by the Foundation as the hospital that needed to be supported urgently. This followed the successful construction of an A&E Trauma Unit at the Karapitiya Hospital, also pioneered by Australians.

This Foundation has reached an agreement with the Sri Lankan Government (Ministry of Health) to provide the rst US$2 million donation towards a US$6 million cost of a three storey, three operating theatres, 86 bed male/female ward A&E modern facility. Work has commenced and completion is expected end December 2017. Your presence will help our fund raising eorts as approximately 50% of the cost of the ticket will go towards
the fund. We hope you will support us by attending the“Timeless Classics” concert
on Sunday 12th March, 2017 at the BESEN CENTRE in BURWOOD.

THE ARTISTES

Shehara Liyanage (Shey) was the lead soloist of “Soul Sounds”, a renown female choir of Sri Lanka. She has a stunning voice, ideally suited to songs from Broadway, the West End and the Cinema and is highly acclaimed in Sri Lanka and other countries. She embarked on a solo career with the launch of her own concert in December 2015, and followed this with a collaborative duo concert in February 2016. She has also recently been part of the Young soloist concert singing with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka. Shey also launched
her rst single on radio to rave reviews.

Soundarie David Rodrigo needs no introduction in Sri Lanka and has toured Australia before. She attained her musical education at the prestigious Royal College of Music in London. Soundarie performs regularly as a concert pianist both in Sri Lanka and overseas. She is much sought after as a musical director and pianist and accompanies Shey in this concert of “Timeless Classics”.

Pradeep Rodrigo will play bass guitar and Christopher Prins (son of the famous Peter Prins) will play drums.
