Whispering Hope helped Maduwantha be cured of cancer by paying for chemotherapy in early 2025 to reduce his bone tumour prior to surgery and for chemotherapy treatment post-surgery. Mid-last year, we appealed for funds towards the purchase of a prosthesis for Maduwantha’s operated leg. A huge thank you to our many donors who contributed Australian $2,300 and Canadian $750, towards the A$6,565 cost of the prosthesis. Following the insertion of the prosthesis, Whispering Hope paid a further $844 towards physiotherapy and $88.75 towards the purchase of an exercise bike to enable Maduwantha to be able to exercise and bend his knee. When we visited him and the Cancer Ward at Badulla during a recent visit to Sri Lanka, we were so pleased to see Maduwantha walking again. Whispering Hope also paid $200 towards the cost of lenses for Maduwantha’s eye surgery, taking the total amount spent on Maduwantha to $11,712. All of you who have supported us should feel proud that you have helped save a young man’s life and help him lead a normal life. Be assured of his and his family’s gratitude too.
We are also pleased to advise that, since our event last year, Whispering Hope purchased Peptogen Milk Powder (nutrition) at a cost of $4,295 for the malnourished cancer patients being treated at the Badulla Hospital. We hope that this fundraiser will supplement current funds to continue to help the cancer patients of Badulla Hospital. Some ways you hope you can are:
Making up a table for the event or coming on your own
Taking out a page in our Souvenir ($250 for inner front or inner back page; $150 for full page; $100 for half page)
Donating towards Raffle prizes.
Also, cash donations could be made to the Whispering Hope Account, details of which are: Account Name: Whispering Hope (Aust) Inc – BSB: 013-547 – Account Number: 4985-56427. Please put your name as the Reference and email your payment receipt to Philomena.mather@outlook.com.
