Flyovers, underground passages, bypass roads to ease traffic congestion in major towns-by Irangika Range

The government has decided to build flyovers and underground passageways for pedestrians and overhead pedestrian bridges and alternative and bypass roads in the places with heaviest traffic reported in Colombo and suburbans.
“The decision has been taken as a solution to ease traffic congestion in Colombo and surburbans areas,” Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said. He said funds for this purpose has already been allocated from the 2021 Budget.
Initial plans have been mooted to erect flyovers in identified areas where heavy traffic is reported. New flyovers in Kohuwala, Baladaksha Mawatha,Uththrananda Mawatha, Justice Akbar Mawatha in Colombo will be built. In Kurunagala, new flyovers will be built in Muththettugala, Yangalmodara, Alawwa and Mahawa.Flyovers will be built in Gatambe in Kandy.
Meanwhile, underground passage ways will be built near Land Development Corporation in Rajagiriya, near President’s College in Rajagiriya, Kottawa, Ratnapura, near Prince and Princess of Wales Colleges in Moratuwa and near the Castle Hospital in Borella. Bypass roads will also be built in Ratnapura, Warakapola and Ragama.
