Kadugannawa Captain Dawson Tower to be restored-by Asela Kuruluwansa

The Archeology Department has planned to rehabilitate the Captain Dawson Tower which has been declared as an archaeological monument in Kadugannawa, in memory of Captain Dawson, who was a pioneer in the construction of the Colombo-Kandy Road.
The Archeology Department has planned to give the opportunity to local and foreign tourists to visit the Captain Dawson Tower from next year.
Archeology Department’s Director General Prof. Tisitha Mendis said that there are 111 wooden stairs to climb to the top of the 125 feet high tower and there is Vellakkuwa used by wood craftsmen in the Kandy period.
Due to the lack of proper maintenance, a part of this wooden staircase has decayed and the Archeology Department has taken steps to not open the Dawson Tower for tourists.
