South Australia’s Liam Scott has been named the 2025–26 Sheffield Shield Player of the Year, as anticipation builds ahead of the Sheffield Shield Final between Victoria and South Australia at CitiPower Centre Melbourne.

The 25-year-old had a superb all‑round season, securing 15 votes to finish atop the umpire‑judged leaderboard ahead of Mitch Perry (Victoria) on 14, with Nathan McAndrew (South Australia) and Beau Webster (Tasmania) equal third on 13. Peter Handscomb (Victoria) and Sam Harper (Victoria) rounded out the leading performers on 12. Voting this season was determined by both field umpires awarding 3-2-1 votes.

Liam Scott, Sheffield Shield Player of the Year said:

“It’s great to receive this recognition, but we’ve got a huge game this week, and honestly, I’d trade any individual award for winning the Sheffield Shield.

“I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the past couple of years, so this award is a nice acknowledgement of that effort.

“I take a lot of pride in contributing to team success, whether that’s with South Australia or the Adelaide Strikers, so it’s great to feel like I’m making an impact on the game.

“I owe a lot to South Australia and to head coach Ryan Harris for giving me the chance to come here and play professional cricket. I’m incredibly grateful for that opportunity.”

Scott finished the season with 496 runs at 41.33 from nine matches and claimed 23 wickets at 25.52. His standout performances included scoring 53 and match figures of 5/62 against Tasmania in Round 4, a superb 147 in the return fixture in Round 6, season‑best figures of 5/33 against Queensland in Round 8.

Peter Roach, Cricket Australia Head of Scheduling, Operations and Domestic Cricket said:

“Congratulations to Liam on an outstanding Shield season.

“His consistency with both bat and ball has been pivotal to South Australia’s campaign as they seek to defend their Sheffield Shield title. He is a thoroughly deserving winner for his performances across the season with both bat and ball. The evenness of the voting further highlights the depth of talent within Australian cricket.

“With five of the top six vote getters coming from Victoria or South Australia, it sets up a terrific Final with Victoria hosting South Australia. We look forward to a fitting showcase of red-ball cricket at the CitiPower Centre.”

The Sheffield Shield Final will see Victoria host defending champions South Australia at CitiPower Centre Melbourne where play is scheduled to begin at 10:30am local time on Thursday, 26 March.

Every ball of the match will be live streamed on Fox Sports and Kayo, fans can also watch the action live on cricket.com.au and the CA Live app.
