• Plans are underway to build a motor racing track between the Nuwara Eliya Race Course and Nuwara Eliya Gregory Lake, the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing said.

  The Ministry said the implementation of the Nuwara Eliya District Tourism Development Zone in an environmentally friendly manner will commence the project this weekend under the instructions of the President and Prime Minister.
  Both sides of the roads from Kitulgala to Nuwara Eliya, Nuwara Eliya to Kandy and Nuwara Eliya to Badulla will be developed as a special tourist zone to attract local and foreign tourists.
  The ministry said the Urban Development Authority (UDA) plans to implement a number of development projects in an eco-friendly manner.

  The Kotagala Wetland Garden Development Project and the Talawakele town beautification project are also scheduled to commence on Saturday.

  The development of the Nuwara Eliya Race Course, Ramboda and Thawalantenna Tourism Project are scheduled to commence on Sunday .

  The Nuwara Eliya Race Course, which has not been properly developed for many years, is to be developed under this tourism development zone at a cost of Rs. 700 million.

  The track will be upgraded to accommodate equestrian events, and plans are afoot to build three stadiums for cricket, football and rugby in the center of the race course.

  In addition, a 3.9 km long cable car system will be installed from Nuwara Eliya to Nanu Oya railway station, the ministry said.
