The inaugural Royal vs. Joes Tennis competition, organized by the Old Joes of NSW, took place at the Parramatta Tennis Centre in Sydney on the 26th of January, marking an exciting addition to Sydney’s growing sports calendar. The event celebrated the historic rivalry between two prestigious Sri Lankan schools, Royal College and St. Joseph’s College. Six players, forming three doubles teams from each school, competed in a round-robin format to claim the newly minted trophy.

The games were closely contested, showcasing remarkable skill and determination, with the Royal College team emerging as the ultimate winners. Alumni and supporters from both sides turned out in large numbers, adding to the lively atmosphere. The Parramatta Tennis Centre provided an excellent venue for the competition, with its state-of-the-art facilities enhancing the experience for players and spectators alike.

The organizers aim to make this event an annual fixture, strengthening bonds within Sydney’s Sri Lankan community. By blending sportsmanship and camaraderie, this competition has laid the foundation for a tradition that promises to grow in popularity over the years.

Such events not only promote healthy competition but also celebrate the cultural and sporting heritage of Sri Lanka, creating lasting memories for participants and attendees alike.
