Sri Lanka’s world-famous Ceylon tea took center stage in a dazzling celebration of heritage, flavor, and global influence as the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi marked International Tea Day with an elegant and immersive event at the prestigious Abu Dhabi Global Market.

Blending diplomacy with culture and commerce, the evening brought together an influential gathering of UAE officials, ambassadors, global industry leaders, and passionate tea connoisseurs, transforming the venue into a vibrant showcase of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated export.

At the heart of the event was a celebration of not just tea, but the island’s identity, craftsmanship, and enduring legacy on the world stage.

The occasion was graced by Dr. Ahmed Mukhtar, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization to the UAE, who attended as Chief Guest, adding international prominence to an already distinguished event.

Guests were treated to an exquisite display of Sri Lanka’s finest tea brands, including globally renowned names.

Each brand presented carefully curated selections, highlighting the remarkable diversity and artistry that define Ceylon tea.

One of the evening’s standout moments was an exclusive, sensory-rich tea tasting session led by certified tea master Mohamed Rikas.

Guiding guests through a sophisticated journey of taste and aroma, he illuminated the unique qualities of teas cultivated across Sri Lanka’s seven distinct tea-growing regions. Each sip told a story, of mist-covered hills, centuries-old traditions, and an unwavering commitment to quality.

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Professor Arusha Cooray, eloquently captured the essence of Ceylon tea’s global reputation and cultural significance, in her comments.

She emphasized the uniqueness of Sri Lanka’s regional tea profiles and the heritage that continues to distinguish the nation as a leading exporter in the global tea market.

“Sri Lanka Tea Board encouraged our embassies to mark International Tea Day, and we were very happy to host this celebration here in Abu Dhabi,” she said. “What we wished to do was highlight the seven unique regions of Ceylon Tea, each with its own character, story, and heritage that truly sets Sri Lanka apart on the global stage.”

Reflecting on the event’s significance, Ambassador Cooray noted the importance of strengthening international partnerships while promoting Sri Lanka’s tea industry.

She also acknowledged the presence of Dr. Ahmed Mukhtar, highlighting his remarks on the exceptional variety, sustainable cultivation methods, and enduring global identity of Ceylon tea.

Guests, including diplomats, senior UAE officials, tea importers, and media representatives, praised the event for its meticulous curation and immersive experience. The atmosphere was warm yet sophisticated, blending tradition with modern elegance, and leaving a lasting impression of Sri Lanka’s rich tea culture.

“We are proud to bring Ceylon Tea to the UAE in this way and look forward to building even stronger partnerships that support Sri Lanka’s tea industry,” Ambassador Cooray added.

As conversations flowed alongside perfectly brewed cups of tea, the evening stood as a powerful reminder of how a simple beverage can transcend borders, connect cultures, and tell the story of a nation.

With its bold flavors, rich aromas, and timeless heritage, Sri Lanka’s Ceylon tea once again proved why it remains one of the most cherished and sought-after teas in the world.
