Vaccines that protect us to survive-by Dr Harold Gunatillake Transcript: The availability of effective vaccines has had the most profound positive effect on improving the quality of public health by preventing infectious diseases. How does vaccines work to prevent specific infections? Vaccine injections are given into your arm or in oral drops for your immune system to fight germs- the invaders or antigens. Of course, vaccines are not given when you have a specific infection but given when not having that infection. You are given a weaker or attenuated version of a virus or bacteria in the form of a vaccine. Vaccines contain weakened or inactive parts of a particular organism (antigen) that triggers an immune response within the body. Newer vaccines contain the blueprint for producing antigens rather the antigen itself. ...

Eliyantha White: Sri Lankan shaman dies of Covid after touting cure Source:-www.bbc.com A Sri Lankan shaman who touted a potion which he said would protect people against Covid-19 has died with the disease, his family says. Eliyantha White treated sports stars and top politicians with the potion, which he said came to him in a dream. He said pouring it into rivers could end the pandemic in Sri Lanka and neighbouring India. The 48-year-old fell ill with the virus earlier this month and was taken to hospital where his condition worsened. His potion was publicly endorsed by Sri Lanka’s former health minister, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, who subsequently spent two weeks in intensive care with Covid. Mr White rose to prominence in recent years after treating several Indian cricket stars, but his treatments have been rejected by mainstream doctors.          “ANOTHER DAMN SCAM” – by Des Kelly     Something that I do not have to worry about anymore, and, for the moment, this applies to many people, but just as Fawlty Towers reminds us, we could quite possibly have to indulge in hotel-stays from time to time, after Covid 19 is no longer a threat. However, that being the case, Hotel-Scams come into being, once again, and there are NO Vaccinations for them.            I have to thank my friend Dallas Achilles for this “post” and decided to share it with all members of e’Lanka. ...

Noel News “It’s good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it’s good, too, to check up once in a while and make sure that you haven’t lost the things that money can’t buy.” GEORGE LORIMER Scammers Scammers are the big topic this week. I’ve started to receive phone calls on my mobile from strangers telling me that they were simply returning my call. This is puzzling, because these people aren’t criminals, they are simply responding to what they thought was a phone call from me. My question is, how can scammers make a phone call using my number as the originating number? That’s a serious worry.   Then I got an email from one of my golfing friends telling me he wished to send me an email with a question and was that okay. I replied of course. Next thing I got an email along ...

SRI LANKA NEWS (AUGUST 2021) Compiled by Victor Melder. Medical officers raised serious concerns about the surging numbers of COVID-19 patients and deaths, with statistics showing at least three to four patients dying every hour. Vice President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA), Dr. Manilka Sumanatillake told the Media that if the country was to win the race between the rapidly increasing COVID infections and the numbers being vaccinated it would have to re-impose stricter travel restrictions for a short period. He also said Sri Lanka’s daily COVID-19 cases count could be several times higher than the official figures. The Ragama and Kalubowila teaching hospitals, where wards were flooded with COVID-19 patients by Wednesday (4), were seen having patients under trees and outside the buildings by last midnight.
