“THE MAGIC OF MARTY” – By Des Kelly
A perfect example of “stories in song”, by still another Superstar in the “music-scene” of my preference. The name?, Marty Robbins, born Martin Robinson.
He certainly started life without any legendary “silver spoon” in his mouth. His dad, a drunkard, who left his young family penniless, with Martin having to pick cotton and dig ditches while still a very young boy, to help his mother raise their family.
As a very young man, Marty joined the U.S.Navy. it was here that he started his musical career, learn’t to play the guitar, and started writing his own songs.
He went on to be one of the most recognised “Country Artistes” of that particular era, El Paso, becoming a number one “hit” around the World. What was a bit different in the Marty Robbins songs was that, like in El Paso, they went on much longer than the standard three & a half to four minute
ones.
The “clip” I have picked for my eLanka readers is simply El Paso, again, through the eyes of Feleena, the Mexican love interest of this roaming Cowboy. Although this one, too, goes on for about 8 minutes & the musical arrangement, just a bit monotonous, it is beautifully sung by “The Magic of Marty”, a guy, who, I think was superb, both as a singer and a songwriter. eLanka readers, please listen, look & enjoy the beautiful Feleena.
Marty Robbins died of a heart attack, aged just 57.
He has gone, but as I always say, his music lives on.
