VERSATILE ACTRESS MRS SRI LANKA MAHESHI MIGRATES TO DUBAI WITH FIRST CAPTAIN IN UAE AIRLINES SAMPATH DISSANAYAKE – By Sunil Thenabadu
The characteristics of any actress is charisma, commitment, hard work, confidence, intelligence, high level of imagination, understanding of human behaviour and to have energy levels. The personal quality of a person requires to become an actress is a question that lingers on people’s minds. The question whether great actors and actresses are born or made has been debated by many people over the years.In this sense Maheshi who loved to be an actress without any hereditary affiliations has come to the apex in the field via sheer perseverance.
Herath Mudiyanselage Maheshi Madushanka Kumari is the only child to her parents. Maheshi was born in Kurunegala had added that the name Maheshi was suggested by her mother while Madushanka by her father and grandmother. Born on 27th October 1993.her father is a businessman while mother is a typical housewife.. Her primary education was from Hemapali Balika Vidyalaya and Swarnapali Balika Vidyalaya and then she had attended a reputed school in Oman for her advanced level where her parents were employed for her advanced level. During her tenure in the schools in Sri Lanka she also performed impressively well in the school stage dramas and short movies has had innate talent not hereditary.
On Maheshi’s return to Sri Lanka for a holiday when she was only eighteen years old, by sheer quirk she had got the opportunity to join in the teledrama field as a novice which is continued as a profession until recently .Her first teledrama appearance was when she portrayed a role in the teledrama ‘ Muthu Warusa” where her role portrayed was opposite Amila Abeysekera a more experienced actor then. Maheshi recollects in the film, she had to portray a role of girl who sells flowers at the Kataragama Devale particularly it was a challenging role competing with many other girls. There she had been taught how to perform as it is also an art, . Altogether Maheshi had portrayed roles in well over thirty teledrama’s. It was only when Maheshika was crowned Mrs Sri Lanka in year 2019 for Mrs World., When she became an actress to be a sought after, was reckoned with as a model too. Maheshi though had been acting for well over a decade had won only one award for the most popular actress at Derana film awards. She had disclosed this information sans any hesitation at a you tube channel symposium saying that she had not won the best actress award during her tenure. However after ten years of acting Maheshi and Tharuka Wanniarachchi were awarded an honorary award organised by the environmental authority. Some have even queried as to what she had done to the environment. At this award ceremony senior actor Tennyson Cooray too was awarded.
Maheshi has come to the cinematic field via Kishan a nephew of Sunil, Soma Peiris, film producer.Kishan was her close Facebook friend had said there is a film to be made by his uncle had asked whether she liked. She had loved acting from school days. On her visit to Sri Lanka she had stayed with her grandmother. Though her parents disliked her grandmother had supported her wish. For the audition many girls had been present, but Maheshi had been selected to portray a role along with three other novice actresses opposite Ranjan Ramanayake and Tennison Cooray. When Maheshi was close to Ranjan Ramanayake some had thought she was friendly with him. She says Ranjan has so many girls he is not a person who wish to have serious love affairs with a view to marry. Maheshi had quipped that even Sampath is aware of her friendship with Ranjan.
She had started her silver screen career with the movie ‘Sihina Lowak Soya’ . After that she became very popular with the movie ‘Jeewithe Lassanai’ that she performed well with the popular actor Ranjan Ramanayake via which she blossomed as a sought-after actress both for her acting prowess and appealing looks. Maheshi had added also in a television you tube dialog from her younger days she has had the feeling to marry early to commence a family life. It is by a sheer eccentricity Maheshi had met her husband Sampath Dissanayake a resident of Kandy, father was attached to the Ministry of Défense as a top ranked officer while mother was a teacher, but now both are retired living relaxed in their twilight years living in their ancestral house in Kandy. Sampath has a solitary younger sister who is domiciled in England. Sampath has had his education at the Dharmaraja College, his father had sent him to USA to become a pilot which is a very expensive exercise. On his return he had joined the Sri Lankan airlines as a pilot and had risen to the status of captain. It was by sheer fate how Maheshi had met Sampath. She had travelled to Korea to sing at a musical concert along with some artistes like Shashika Nissansala , Rumi etc On her return on an UL Sri Lankan airlines flight steward Malinda had asked whether they were interested in visiting the cockpit. Once after the flight had descended these singers had been taken to the cockpit where in addition to Sampath there had been the first officer in the cockpit. Maheshi now adds that Sampath looked a huge figure well over six feet in height had looked at her and said Hi only, She recollects that it was Runi who had taken the initiative and interest in visiting the cockpit which Maheshi gives credit.Sampath recollects that Maheshi has asked whether to take photos of the cockpit, From Janith Bandara, first officer’s visiting card was obtained by Runi who had on its reverse the contact number of Sampath had been written.
Maheshi recollects that Sampath had sent her a Facebook request to her which she had promptly accepted. The friendship on the Facebook had taken the duo to a higher intimate level, when they had met and developed a rigid love affair ending in marriage. Maheshi had asserted that she has had an affair like many others before marriage. She had known married male party having an affair with another girl who too has another serious relationship. She had added that some men are drug addicts having mental issues, hence when finding a partner, one must very carefully need to thoroughly study him. Maheshi had in several television and you tube channel interviews had spoken very high of Sampath’s unique attributes. Maheshi had stated that he has a kind heart helps many even sacrificing sometimes becoming even a loser. According to Maheshi ,Sampath possess a wonderful temperament who hardly, loses his temper , is a wonderful husband who should be emulated by all, really a typical role model . Maheshi had stated that within a short period of a year or two after marriage she had realised what true love is as she is one person who does it deeply. Maheshi has given some advice to all lovers not to be in haste but study the character of the fiancé’ before taking decisions.
Sampath as professed by Maheshi is a person who is extremely dedicated to his profession who make many sacrifices to his trade. For the other many characteristics of Sampath, Maheshi has added numerous times. She is of the strong opinion that Sampath’s parents should be credited for bringing up Sampath in this manner. At many discussions she had told that she wishes all budding wives to select a person who possesses immaculate qualities like that of Sampath. During an argument Maheshi added that Sampath remains quiet without speaking which he adds hurts Maheshi more than if he was also arguing. She had added that during an argument the duo get into the car and drive while coming to an amicable settlement. She says as the kids are in an understanding age the two kids could pick up some unfamiliar words if they commence an argument at the dwelling. Maheshi had stated that the duo are like friends ,take decisions while consulting each other, Maheshi and Sampath do marketing together. When Sampath is aways for three days or so Maheshi feels his absence as he is an ideal husband attending to domestic chaos willingly sans any hesitation. Maheshi has confirmed that Sampath possess better qualities than her.Sampath according to Maheshi gives complete freedom to her does not interfere at all with her professional acting career to which Maheshi added hence her mind is calm and strong to portray her given role. Sampath had stated that he had found the correct life partner been an ideal housewife looking after the children and the domestic arena to perfection. It is learnt that they have not had a conventional wedding ceremony but only a small ceremony attended by family, close relatives and selected few friends. After the birth of the second child Maheshi had commenced acting in a teledrama which she had commenced while she was pregnant. She had added that she gets up early around 3 am collects her breast milk to sterilised feeding bottles for the daughter to consume during the day. When she attends shooting so abruptly many people just accuse her of taking part in shoots sans feeding the baby which she believes by unnecessary gossip mongers. This Maheshi had elaborated the wrong mental attitude of some onlookers. Now the duo has a son six years, Thenul Aradhya Lanka and a daughter, Kenuli Kulaseeli Kumari, three years attending Lyceum International school as they were unable to find a reputed government school which the duo would have preferred as in government schools where the pupils are punished for slightest offences but not in International schools. On that issue Maheshi prefers the children to study in government schools. Also, in a television You tube dialog Maheshi had confessed that she has achieved all she could achieve but one who hates injustice who talks straight a genuine individual. Maheshi was full of praise to all television channels had conveyed she has nothing to complain of. In many dialogs she has had with television channels she was full of praise for her beloved mother who had been right behind her before marriage and even to date even while having a domestic aid for home chaos.
Sampath had been elected as the captain in Sri Lankan airlines a few years back which is a position not easy as most captains are overseas personnel. The duo had added also in a You tube television dialog that they disliked the activities, decisions of the related ministers which have made them frustrated not at all within the activities of the airline. Sampath had been contemplating to join a reputed airline the United Arabic Emirates airline in Dubai purely regarding the much-needed education of the two kids as things were going from bad to worse in all areas in native Sri Lanka with absolutely no signs of improvement. Sampath had added in another dialog that with his salary for him and Maheshi is enough to survive sans any hassle.Sampath had emphasized on the development in Dubai and the Emirates airline who does not recruit captains easily .When the history of the Emirates was researched they had recruited only twelve or thirteen captains during the past decade as captains to the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777’s which is world renowned. He commended on the administrators at the Emirates who had initially commenced with one A 380 airbus but soon they had developed to be one of the best airlines in the globe with a large fleet of Air Buses and Boeings. He added that the advertisement for recruiting of captains to the Emirates had appeared about two years ago when Sampath had not possessed the required requisites. But lately one captain colleague Janith Bandara had met him personally had advised him forcibly to apply for Emirates invites “First Officers to let their careers take flight and enjoy the Dubai lifestyle”. The application was sent via the I pad of Sampath, insisted by his captain colleague.
After a brief period when the duo was holidaying in Malaysia had received an intimation confirming Sampath had been selected. The duo had been baffled and dumbfounded in disbelief had even sat down on a bench in a street to have a discussion to decide. When Sampath wanted to ‘leave it alone’ it was Maheshi who had induced Sampath saying accept as he could deliver with his competency. Once the confirmation was sent the authorities of Emirates had wanted Sampath to come with his family to get accustomed to his job. The Emirates had sent a business class tickets and a hotel was booked for Maheshi which shows what facilities and care are given by Emirates to their employees. However, Maheshi honestly added that she owes a gratitude to Sri Lankan Airlines as her family had lived on the wages Sampath received form the employer. She also stated many other pilots and cabin crew had joined United Arabic Emirates airline in the recent for the same reason because the politicians’ detrimental decisions. In a dialog Maheshi had added in a you tube channel she said though many attires of the cabin crew were clad with unique attires. Though the Sri Lankan air hostesses wore the most attractive saree attire there had been no publicity the management had not initiated to take even uploading their saree dress.
These comments Maheshi had been waiting to relate, for a long time. Now that Sampath has resigned she is free to disclose the drawback at Sri Lankan Airlines. Sampath had left for Dubai on the 1st of December. Maheshi and the two children will follow once He settles down particularly this was a understanding he had with the management of Emirates as during the training period having the family is an obstruction to his duties. But Sampath hopes to bring them in about five to six months having settled down and found suitable schools for the children. Sampath added the new environment is foreign to all hence it would be better for him to get used to the setting. Moreover, there are some shooting works undertaken by Maheshi to oblige. These were disclosed at another television you tube dialog just before Sampath’s departure. Maheshi was so sensitive and agitated about Sampath’s departure, she was even unable to speak properly with tears coming out her eyes.It was highlighted in many You Tube channels added in headlines that Maheshi leaves motherland. Maheshi in a television dialog had said that she had seen at the airport so many husbands leave leaving children and housemaids leaving in search of greener pastures. In this context Maheshi thinks of them to console herself.
Before Sampath’s departure the duo wanted to surprise the parents of Sampath particularly for the immense sacrifice they had made to educate him and then for his airline course in USA. The two had decided to have the seventh wedding anniversary party inviting many relations, Sampath’s airline friends and those attached and known to Maheshi in the arts field for them to come to know each other. It was a really a grand anniversary party at which mother and father of Sampath had shed tears as he was leaving. Maheshi has quipped that many had volunteered to help to make the anniversary celebration a resounding success. Sampath’s parents are happy about his accepting the elevated first captain opportunity had said that we could look after ourselves. But only if one leaves, please take the responsibility to look after the one who remains. Sampath appropriately has stated that Maheshi is given the freedom to select a new profession after settling down as for a person who had been in focus for a long time cannot remain idling. This is another unique quality and understanding of Sampath which he says it will be a crime for her to idle as she is multi-talented.
Maheshi expressed her immense gratitude to the Sri Lankan Airlines as she was able to meet Sampath which to her is the biggest gift to her life.As a popular actress known to many she had added that she gets help and attention and prominence wherever she visits like Banks, markets, government institutions, hospitals, markets and many more places.
