Vision Care Academy celebrates the success of its 2025 graduating class 01

29th August 2025, Colombo: Vision Care Academy, the educational arm of Sri Lanka’s largest vision, eyewear, and hearing solutions provider, Vision Care, proudly hosted its Convocation Ceremony 2025, celebrating the achievements of its graduating class and reaffirming its commitment to developing highly skilled professionals in the fields of optometry, ophthalmic assistance, dispensing optics, and audiometry.

The ceremony brought together distinguished guests, academics, and industry leaders to honour the graduates. The Chief Guest, Vidya Jyothi Emeritus Professor Rohan W. Jayasekara, Founder Director of the Human Genetics Unit, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, delivered an inspiring address highlighting the importance of advanced education and innovation in healthcare.

Guests of Honour included Vidya Jyothi Professor Vajira H.W. Dissanayake, Dean, Chair and Senior Professor of Anatomy, Department of Anatomy, Genetics & Biomedical Informatics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and Dr. Kusum Rathnayaka, Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cornea and external eye diseases and President of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka. They shared valuable insights on the evolving demands of the eye and hearing healthcare sectors and emphasised the vital role of continued learning in improving patient outcomes.

The event also featured the presence of Professor Madhuwanthi Dissanayake, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Professor in Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. Special Guests included Dr. Upali Mendis, Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist and Advisor to Vision Care Academy; Professor Dilanthi Herath, Head of the Department of Allied Health Science, University of Sri Jayewardenepura; Ms. Pooja Ranasinghe, Faculty Member, Department of Optometry, University of Sri Jayewardenepura; and Dr. Ganga Thennakoon from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Sri Lanka, who also serves as a Senior Visiting Lecturer at Vision Care Academy.

This year’s graduating students represented a range of Vision Care Academy programs, including the Diploma in Optometry, Diploma in Orthoptics, Certificate in Ophthalmic Assistance, Certificate in Audiometry, and Certificate in Dispensing Optics. The cohort also included graduates from the Bausch & Lomb Contact Lens Mastermind Program. The formal proceedings featured an oath-taking ceremony during which graduates pledged to uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in both optometry and hearing care practice.

Speaking at the event, Vidya Jayarathna, Head of Vision Care Academy, expressed pride in the accomplishments of the graduating class and appreciation for the dedication of the faculty in delivering world-class training. He emphasized that these professionals are now equipped to make a meaningful impact in the fields of eye and hearing care, both locally and internationally.

Since its establishment in 2008, Vision Care Academy has grown from an in-house training facility into a fully equipped, TVEC-accredited institute with a distinguished lecture panel drawn from leading universities in Sri Lanka. The Academy offers comprehensive education in optometry, ophthalmic assistance, dispensing optics, and audiometry, conducting four full-time courses under the supervision of the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC). It is a full-time member of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, India, and an affiliate member of the World Council of Optometry, further strengthening its role as a premier institution for eye and hearing care education in Sri Lanka.
