While most cricketing fans may be focusing on the T20 World Cup matches in the Caribbean and USA, the female West Indian cricketers have been ‘holidaying’ in Sri Lanka. Or rather, thus far, they have faced the mighty Sri Lankan ladies in three 50-over matches in the south-eastern corner of the island: at the grounds in Hambantota abutting the wild life park at Yala and a vibrant coastline.

Whether the latter distractions proved to be debilitating, I cannot say. But they have been well and truly ‘distracted’ and rolled over by the Sri Lankan ladies. The summary scorelines of the three matches played thus far are as follows

ODI ONE:  SL women won …. after Windies [asked to bat] totalled 193 runs, a target which the hosts secured in 35 overs for the loss of 4 wkts.

ODI TWO: Sri Lanka won with 172 balls to spare after bowling the Windies out for 172; with Kavishka Dilhari taking 4 wkt and then calming the Battin with a crucial 28 runs after the side lost tow early wkts.

ODI THREE:  SL women won by 160 runs – Lanka batting first reached 275 for 6wkts; with Athapaththu scoring 91; Nilakshika Silva 63 and Anushka Sanjeevani 55….; while the Windies were rolled over for 115 -chiefly due to Sachini Nishansala capturing 5 wkts 28 runs with her left-arm spin…so SL Women won by 160 runs.
