World Diabetes Day 2023: Vision Care highlights the importance of regular eye exams to combat vision complications

World Diabetes Day 2023-eLanka

16th November 2023, Colombo: Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest vision and eye wear solutions provider, is marking World Diabetes Day 2023 by emphasizing the critical role of regular eye testing in preventing various eye complications associated with diabetes. The global theme for this year’s World Diabetes Day is “Access to Diabetes Care,” and Vision Care is committed to raising awareness about the impact of diabetes on eye health.

Diabetes poses significant risks to various aspects of health, including the cardiovascular system, kidneys, nerves, and teeth, all stemming from consistently high blood glucose levels. Among the numerous complications, diabetic retinopathy stands out as a leading cause of vision loss in adults. Vision Care aims to raise awareness about diabetic retinopathy, a consequence of chronic hyperglycemia (high blood glucose), which can lead to diabetic macular edema (DME), a common cause of vision loss. Health conditions such as high blood sugar and high blood pressure increase the risk of blindness for people with DME. Diabetes is also one of the risk factors that lead to cataracts, glaucoma and dry eyes.

In response to the pressing need for proactive eye care, Vision Care offers a special Diabetic Eye Check-Up Package, at a discounted rate until the end of this month at select branches. This comprehensive package includes a basic eye test, eye pressure test, and Fundoscopic test, aiming to make essential eye testing accessible to all.

The Diabetic Retinopathy Assessment offered by Vision Care is a comprehensive examination that includes a refraction test, eye pressure test, fundus photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) eye test, and visual field test. Conducted by Vision Care’s well-trained and experienced optometry professionals, these assessments employ state-of-the-art equipment available at select branches. Following the assessment, patients receive tailored solutions such as prescription glasses, contact lenses, or sunglasses. If further treatment is necessary, Vision Care guides patients to qualified Ophthalmologists. Regular diabetic retinopathy assessments are important so that patients are aware of the condition of their eyes. Early detection allows the patient to take necessary precautions and treatments to protect their eyes.

Vision Care’s commitment to advancing eye care technology in Sri Lanka is evident in its provision of high-quality eye examinations, spectacles, sunglasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, and hearing testing. The company has played a pivotal role in introducing globally recognized eyewear brands to the local market, ensuring that its outlets consistently offer high-quality optical and ophthalmic products.
