Zahira College’s 11th  Colombo Scout Group Unites Over 700 Scouts at Jamboree 2025 Celebrating 110 Years of Scouting Excellence

17th September 2025, Colombo:  The 11th Colombo Scout Group of Zahira College, Colombo, proudly marked a monumental milestone in its rich history as it celebrated 110 years of Scouting excellence with the Zahira Scouts Jamboree 2025, held recently at the Zahira College Grounds.

The four-day Jamboree brought together over 700 scouts from 75 schools across the island, creating a vibrant celebration of adventure, friendship, leadership, harmony, and unforgettable memories. United under the timeless principles of discipline, service, and brotherhood, the event showcased the enduring spirit of Scouting and its ability to transcend boundaries of race, religion, and culture.

The Opening Ceremony was graced by Roshan Mahanama, former Sri Lankan cricketer and respected personality, as Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Mahanama said: “This Jamboree is a wonderful way to bridge the gap among different races and religions. Every child has a unique talent, and it is our responsibility as elders to identify, nurture, and guide them to become good citizens. I sincerely thank Zahira College’s Scout Group for organizing such a meaningful event and for inviting me to be part of this celebration. I wish all of you continued success.”

The Closing Ceremony featured Janaprith Fernando, Chief Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association, as Chief Guest, with Sampath Wijesinghe, District Commissioner – Colombo District Branch, as Guest of Honour.

Speaking on the impact of the event, Janaprith Fernando noted: “Scouting has always been about service, leadership, and unity. Zahira College’s 110th-year celebration has truly embodied this spirit by bringing together scouts from across the nation to share, learn, and grow together. This Jamboree stands as a national celebration of brotherhood.”

Trizviiy Marikkar, Principal of Zahira College, also expressed his pride in hosting the Jamboree, stating: “The Zahira Scouts Jamboree 2025 has been an inspiring experience for both our scouts and the many participants from across the country. It has reinforced the values of Scouting and strengthened bonds of unity, leadership, and friendship.”

Adding to this, Fouzul Hameed, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Zahira College, said: “The main purpose of organizing such an event is to promote harmony and unity among children. Textbook education alone is not enough to shape the future generations—we must also nurture them to live in peace and understanding. This Jamboree has shown that schools across the island can come together in the true spirit of Scouting.”

  1. Irshad Razak, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, stated “Zahira Scouts Jamboree 2025 has been a true reflection of what Scouting stands for — discipline, service, and brotherhood. Bringing together scouts from across the island has shown us the strength of unity and the importance of shaping our young generation with values that go beyond academics. I am proud of the commitment of our scout leaders, and the entire Zahira community for making this milestone celebration a success.”

One of the highlights of the Jamboree was the introduction of its lively mascot, “Zayro”, who brought an element of fun and energy to the celebrations. Scouts also had the chance to take part in a wide range of adventurous and skill-building activities including wall climbing, rifle shooting, monkey bridge, aerial runway, and exploring the interactive exhibition area.

Another key highlight was the Grand Campfire, a tradition at the heart of Scouting. Under the stars, scouts celebrated the essence of unity, brotherhood, and shared traditions—strengthening friendships, showcasing talents, and igniting the true spirit of Scouting.

As the flames of the campfire burned brightly, so too did the spirit of Scouting, reminding all present of the movement’s enduring values and the important role it continues to play in shaping future generations of Sri Lanka.

The Zahira Scouts Jamboree 2025 was not only a celebration of 110 years of Scouting excellence but also a testament to Zahira College’s proud legacy of leadership, unity, and producing good citizens to serve and save the nation.
