The construction of Pallekele International Cricket Stadium was initiated to provide Sri Lanka with a modern facility capable of hosting international cricket matches. The stadium was officially opened in 2009 and was built in preparation for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, which Sri Lanka co-hosted along with India and Bangladesh.

The infrastructure is designed to provide an excellent viewing experience for spectators and a comfortable environment for players.
  4. Floodlights: Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is equipped with state-of-the-art floodlighting, allowing for day-night matches. This feature has made it a popular venue for limited-overs internationals and T20 matches.
