On Friday 1st November the Uduvill Girls College, Old Girl’s Association of Sydney held its first “Kothu Kondattam” night at the Don Moore community hall in North Rocks Combining friends re-connecting with lively entertainment, this evening promised cherished memories for all attendees and it certainly delivered.

As guests arrived, they were greeted by soft, ambient lighting and beautifully arranged elegant blue and white (Uduvil school colours) centrepieces that adorned each table. The venue itself was the perfect size for friends from different batches to reconnect and reminisce of their time studying at Uduvil. The start of the night began with a rousing rendition of the school song by the NSW old Girls (and one or two old boys) who still sang with great pride for their Alma Mater. The MC (and current president of the Sydney OGA) Mahal Selvadurai created a vibrant and welcoming environment allowing guests to easily transition from dining to dancing!

The delicious freshly made Kothu by Majula Fernando of Dish dining and events was a great delight for all attendees. A generous serving of Chicken, Lamb and vegetarian Kothu with  Chicken curry, Deviled Fish and Brinjal Moju were a great treat for Sydney siders with a street food vibe. The main course made in front of guests created much excitement as many had not experienced this before. To top it all off, dessert of Sri Lankan biscuit pudding and Wattalappam were the perfect ending to the meal!

As the dinner concluded, the atmosphere shifted from fellowship and feasting to an exhilarated dance party.  DJ Juda Drums transitioned to upbeat tunes and Baila encouraging guests of all ages to hit the dance floor. The addition of the live drummer Sri lankan Papare during Baila certainly ramped up the energy and brought more people to the dance floor. The energy of the room was contagious with everyone from seasoned dancers to shy new combers joining in. A highlight of the night was the much anticipated lucky door prizes and very generous raffle draws which saw some very happy winners walk away with big smiles and wonderful prizes.

Roy Gunaratne from Roy Grafix was there to capture all the magic moments of the night.

Kothu Kondattam night was a resounding success combining reconnections with old batch mates (or boarding house mates) great fellowship, delicious food and lively entertainment, creating a joyful and memorable experience for everyone who attended. I congratulate the committee for a very fine evening and very much looking forward to the Bicentennial Ball in 2025 to be held at Novotel Olympic Park on 3 May 2025.
