Why Your Change Management Strategy Is Failing (And How To Fix It) – by Alok Das

You’ve got a shiny new strategy for change management. You’re pumped. Your team’s pumped. But as weeks pass by, you realise something’s off. The excitement is dwindling, and the resistance is building.

What’s going wrong?
1. You Forgot About The Human Element: People aren’t just cogs in a machine. They have emotions, fears, and biases. If you’re not addressing the psychological aspect of change, you’re setting yourself up for failure.
2. Communication, Or The Lack Thereof: You sent out an email outlining the change. Great. But have you had real conversations? Have you listened to the concerns? People need to feel heard.
3. You’re Moving Too Fast: Change isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon. If you’re bulldozing through without allowing time for adaptation, you’re going to hit a wall. Slow down, iterate, and be patient.

Fixing It:
1. Lead With Empathy: Understand your team’s concerns and fears. Address them head-on. Make them feel involved in the process.
2. Over-Communicate: Be transparent. Regular updates, Q&A sessions, open-door policies—make information accessible and easy to digest.
3. Small Wins: Break down the change into manageable chunks. Celebrate every little victory. This builds momentum and reduces resistance.
Remember, change management isn’t just about processes; it’s about people.
