Enjoyed a lively cultural celebration on Crown Riverwalk in the city as Sri Lankan expatriates gathered in large numbers despite inclement weather, for the annual Food Fest that has now become a much looked forward to event in Melbourne’s multi- cultural calendar.
The 10th anniversary of this event outside Crown Casino, drew a mamoth crowd to Sri Lanka’s biggest cultural event, perhaps only second to the Avuruddu celebrations each year in Dandenong.

A wide array of Sri Lankan food stalls that included a hopper stall, Thosai corner, Biriyani from Cinnamons, a former favourite restaurant in St. Kilda, and traditional clothing, herbal medicines and all things Sri Lankan were available to buy.
Traditional Sri Lankan music, speeches from prominent Sri Lankan figures, and commendations from Federal Politicians Cassandra Fernando, (Labor MP for Holt), and Gary Maars, Labor Member for Narre Warren, featured in the popular event.
It was a typical Melbourne day as fluctuating weather dominated the afternoon’s proceedings but it did little to deter the cultural dancers and an appreciative crowd that braved the conditions to be there.
There is still a couple of hours left for Melburnians wanting to take in the action.
