SEASON OF SPIRITUALITY; REVELRY & SAFETY. – By Noor Rahim
As we enter the season of festivities & revelry
A period we revere so much
That we go “on the splurge” to outdo the neighbour, in rivalry
But little do we pay attention as such
To conform to the “safety factors” that therein lie
Starting off, from our very homes
Is the fervent desire to illuminate our abode
That attracts the neighbourhood of the auspicious
A few even constructing “The Nativity” – vivid and so alive
And some homes so colourfully adorned & well-lit with Christmas Tree
Little do we take cognizance of the fact that those very electrical lines & appliances
Have inherent hazards, unless used within limits & care
As stipulated by the manufacturer & local Authorities
Any overload of the electrical circuits may or would lead to a disaster
We have often seen the single wall mount meant for ONE plug being utilized with more
Every home with electricity has a “power control board” with “trip switches”
Distributing power through electrical wires to the established outlets in the abode
The “trip switches” are the SAFETY devices that prevents an overload on the circuitry
And very useful and incipient forewarning to the user
To stop the operation and get the system checked before you continue
It is during festivities and social events that folks tend to forget these implications
Remember too that in our personal lives the “Rules of Safety” is always binding & to the fore
There are two wonderful sayings that should be ingrained in one’s memory
“A stitch in time saves nine” – before it comes asunder
“Chance takers are accident makers” – carelessness may cost life or two
