Sri Lanka is not merely a destination; it is an immersive experience. It encompasses the exhilaration of observing a whale in the deep blue sea, the reverence inspired by standing before a 2,000-year-old stupa, the tranquillity of sipping tea amid misty hills, and the delight of embracing a culture that wholeheartedly celebrates life.

For travellers seeking beauty, history, and art, Sri Lanka is waiting— ready to enchant, inspire, and leave lasting memories.

Sri Lanka is often described as one of the most captivating islands on Earth, offering a harmonious blend of golden beaches, historical heritage, and awe-inspiring natural wonders, making it an exceptionally appealing destination for travellers.

We are pleased to acknowledge the recent challenges our small nation has faced and the accomplishments achieved, as evidenced by the number of travellers to Sri Lanka from January to November this year.

Sri Lanka attracts approximately 1.5 to over 2 million tourists annually, with visitor numbers demonstrating a robust rebound following the pandemic. In 2023, the count reached approximately 1.49 million, and projections indicate it will exceed 2 million (2.05 to 2.1 million), surpassing the pre-pandemic level of roughly 2.03 million in 2019. Furthermore, initial data and projections for 2025 suggest continued recovery and growth, with estimated visitor numbers ranging from 2.3 to 2.5 million.

The 2025 forecast remains optimistic, with tourist arrivals projected to range from 2.3 to 2.5 million, indicating a positive trend.

Regrettably, the Ditwar cyclone may impede the achievement of such an optimistic projection for December.

Currently, the principal sources of market arrivals are India, the United Kingdom, Germany, and China, which are consistently recognised as the primary countries of origin for visitors.

Sri Lanka’s coastal areas bear the marks of Moors, Dutch, and Portuguese traders, whose forts, churches, and colonial architecture still stand today. The Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a prime example.

Inland, the island’s history is recorded in ancient chronicles and preserved at sites such as Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, once capitals ruled by great kings.

Sri Lanka’s past is written in stone and preserved in timeless ruins.

The Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a living testament to Portuguese and Dutch colonial influence.

The ancient capitals of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa showcase monumental stupas, palaces, and temples that narrate the island’s Buddhist heritage and royal grandeur.

Every site tells a story of kings, monks, traders, and civilisations that shaped this island into a cultural crossroads.
