FORCE OF PEACE SHOULD STOP THIS INSANE WAR AND SHOW THEIR PLACE TO THE WARLORDS-by N.S.Venkataraman
Billions of people around the world , including citizens in the countries whose government leaders have thought it fit to launch this Israel/US – Iran war, think that this insane war should be stopped forthwith. It is now obvious that the people around the world are convinced that this war has been launched by the warlords without any particular or immediate provocation . The warlords seem to be under the impression that they have the military and financial power to defeat and control the country who they despise. While the world opinion is in favour of the cessation of hostilities immediately , the warlords seem to have other ideas and appear to have their own priorities and in the process, they seem to treat the world opinion with contempt.
In such process , in less than a week of war, enormous damage has been done to energy installations which are vital for the world economy and sustenance and several structures have been brought down by bombing, apart from loss of large number of human lives and creating huge fear in the mind of the affected people for no fault of theirs. It is particularly tragic that an Iranian ship in international waters in Indian Ocean has been torpedoed , killing more than 80 people in the mid sea, which indicate the extent to which the warlords would go, unmindful of the consequences for the world order.
The warlords are assessing and calculating the degree of their success by counting the number of people that they have been able to kill and the number of infrastructures that they have destroyed. While making such assessment, the warlords have not cared about the enormity of the damage that they have caused. They seem to think that their goal has to be reached at any cost and human sufferings , disruption of trade and global economy are inconsequential , as far as they are concerned.
Now, the million dollar question is how to stop this insane war and who can stop this war, particularly when the warlords who have launched this war seem to be determined to pursue their goal.
World War II happened due to the attitude and priority of Hitler, which seem to be similar to the attitude and priority of the warlords who have now launched this insane war. At that time, several countries jointly opposed Hitler and brought him down to save the world from atrocities of Hitler. However, in the present day conditions, this possibility do not seem to be there , since the warlords who have launched this war seem to be too powerful due to their military power and financial strength.
Against injustice, violence and war, there is an inherent force of peace which can effectively restore sanity and world order. The potential moral and ethical strength of the force of peace is yet to be adequately appreciated, identified and strengthened . In the past, great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and a few others relied on this force of peace to fight against injustice and defeat the brutal force. They were successful to a limited extent . Nevertheless, they have highlighted the enormous good that the strengthening of the force of peace can bring to the world order .
The ongoing US/Israel – Iran war calls for fully realizing and utilizing the enormous potential of the force of epace with its ethical and moral strength, that can lead to stoppage of this insane war and show their place to the warlords.
What is immediately required is that the peace lovers , concerned and discerning people around the world should start protesting against the ongoing war peacefully and demonstratively. This has to be done in all countries , which will certainly make the warlords realise their limitations and force them to stop the atrocities. At this time, this view on force of peace may be viewed as Utopian and wishful thinking by pessimists. However, with faith and goodwill and enormous determination to fight for peace in the world, the force of peace can achieve the objectives sooner or later, perhaps, sooner than later. Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King have shown the way.
The ball is clearly in the court of the United Nations Secretary General , who should give a world wide call for people’s movement and strengthening of force of peace to stop this war . UNO has become a toothless body at present and UNO Secretary General appear to be giving an impression of helplessness in the wake of the US/Israel – Iran war. However, if he can rise up to the occasion by utilizing the reach of the United Nations around the world to launch this force of peace , a new and positive trend will emerge and this would be a trend setter for the future world order.
United Nations should play pivotal role in promoting and accelerating the climate for ensuring force of peace around the world to achieve its purpose of ensuring peace and harmony in the world.
