2026 Sinhala and Tamil New Year Auspicious Times – Sydney, Australia

New Year Dawn

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year in 2026 falls on April 14 at 2:02 PM.

Non-Auspicious Time (Nonagathe)

On April 14, the Nonagathe period is from 7:38 AM to 8:26 AM.
During this time, all work and transactions should be avoided. Instead, people are encouraged to engage in religious activities such as observing sil, offering alms, and visiting temples to seek blessings.

Lighting the Hearth

On April 14, at 5:28 PM, the auspicious time to light the hearth arrives.
Facing the South direction, dressed in light-colored clothing, prepare milk rice (kiri bath) and begin cooking.

Starting Work, Transactions & First Meal

On April 14, at 6:43 PM, it is the auspicious time to start work, conduct financial transactions, and partake in the first meal.

Anointing Oil Ceremony (Hisa Thel Gema)

On April 15, at 7:41 AM, the oil anointing ceremony should be performed.
This ritual is traditionally conducted with herbal oils while facing the appropriate direction, bringing good health and blessings.
