ERAN WICKRAMARATNE APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF SLC-eLanka 02

Eran Wickramaratne, was appointed unanimously as the Chairman of the nine-member transformation committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket  on 29th April 2026 sans much deliberation after the Chairman Shammi Silva and executive  committee of all board members of the SLC resigned with two years more to remain in office. This appointment to manage Sri Lanka Cricket until fresh elections are conducted following the resignation of its president and executive committee earlier that day. The appointment was made by Sunil Kumara Gamage, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, to address current issues in the sport and implement structural reforms.
The new members of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Transformation Committee are as follows:
·        Eran Wickramaratne: Chairman, known for his experience in both politics and the corporate sector.
·        Kumar Sangakkara: Former cricket star and business leader.
·        Roshan Mahanama: Former cricketer with extensive experience in the sport.
·        Sidath Wettimuny: Former cricketer and corporate leader.
·        Prakash Schaffter: Corporate leader with expertise in cricket.
·        Avanthi Colombage: Corporate leader with legal expertise.
·        Thushira Radella: Corporate leader with legal expertise.
·        Upul Kumarapperuma: Legal expert with expertise in cricket.
Dinal Phillips: Legal expert with expertise in cricket.These members have been appointed to oversee the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket and implement structural reforms to improve the governance and performance of the sport.

Eran  is the son of prominent evangelical (Born again) pastor, Rev. Dr. Colton Wickramaratne (1931–2018), and the brother of Rev. Dishan Wickramaratne. He is married to Kushlani Wickramaratne and father to two children, Sohanya and Dhishan.]
 Eran  was a former Member of Parliament holding many portfolios as State Minister of Finance, Deputy Minister of Investment Promotions and, Highways under the 100 day program, under the Maithripala Sirisena government ,Had held the prestigious position as CEO of the National Development Bank for nine years from  year 2001, a former Chairman Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) v
Eran was an old boy of prestigious Royal College served as the school’s Head Prefect, represented the Royal College cricket team as the opening batsman in years 1976and 1977, also at the Royal Thomian big match, had represented in the Sri Lankan Schoolboy cricket team also as the opening batsman had also captained the college hockey  team, also while still a schoolboy had represented the Tamil Union club as an opening batsman in the sara trophy tourney.
His well to do parents had sent him to London for his BSc. During his tenure had played league cricket for the Kent county . Eran had completed his BSc in Economics and Msc also in Economics from the University of London. Eran reminisces to earn pocket money he had washed dishes in hotels, worked in petrol sheds during his tenure in the University..While working in a petrol shed he was requested to promote a new oil production. He reminisced initially sans knowing much about the oil level in vehicles had wanyed to promote that oil to a lady customer. Having opened the bonnet he was clueless how to check the oil level which was shown to him by the client.However he was able to promote the oil among the clients. After a while to his surprise he was given a bonus in addition to his weekly salary saying that particular petrol shed had marketed the highest amount of the new oil. He is also an Eisenhower Fellow which is a highly accomplished mid-career professional selected to participate in a tailored  four to six weeks program in a developed country.
On his return  as a qualified economist, he was an automatic inclusion to USA based  Citibank  Colombo, Sri Lanka branch in year 1982,  with promotions at intervals was elevated to the position of  a vice president in year 1996. In year  2000, he was intricate in establishing NDB Bank, where he became CEO in 2001.during which time though he was awarded scholarships he rejected as he was a stern believer in assisting his institution grow. During this era he had received calls from the Prime Minister and Milinda Moragoda wanting to know about the new technology he recalled. When young he was told my his parents that every individual should work for his country after completing higher studies.. In year  2005, he served as a Director and advisor for Board of Investment (BOI) and later became an adviser to the Ministry of Science & Economic Reform. During this tenure, he was a contributory in the establishment of the first Information Communication Act and became the founder chairman of the Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA). He resigned from his post of CEO of NDB to take up his seat in Parliament in 2010..
He joined the right of centre United National Party, serving as its treasurer and entered parliament from the National List at the 2010 General Elections. After the election of Maithripala Sirisena, as President Eran was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Investment Promotions and Highways in the “good governance” government under the premiership of Ranil Wickremasinghe. He was appointed as the United National Party chief organiser of the Colombo-East electorate before being shifted to the Moratuwa electorate in year 2015. In the general election that followed at which  he was elected to parliament from the Colombo district gaining 82,737 preferential votes. In year 2015, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Investment Promotions and Highways and in 2017 he was appointed State Minister of Finance, holding office until the appointment in 2019 of a new caretaker cabinet headed by Mahinda Rajapaksa.

It operates the Sri Lankan cricket team, Sri Lanka A cricket team, Sri Lankan women’s cricket team and first-class cricket within Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is a full member of the International Cricket Council and the Asian Cricket Council. Sri Lanka co-hosted the 1996 Cricket World Cup and the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
