DR JANAKA GALLANGODA AND PRIYANGA HAPUGALLE WIN AT THE NUWARA ELIYA GOLF CLUB

The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club comes alive every April as the two most prestigious events, the Captain’s Cup and the President’s Prize are conducted at this oldest Golf Course in Sri Lanka. Both these events are recognized as Board events with some very illustrious past winners such as Rusi Captain, Pheroze Billimoria, Ranil Pieris, Sunil Jayakoddy, Dr Thurairaja and Maj Gen Srinath Rajapakse. There was much enthusiasm amongst all participants this year with some leading contenders entering the tournament.

Bright sunshine and immaculate fairways greeted the many Golfers who teed off soon after dawning the New Year with a traditional breakfast. The Captain’s Cup was won by Priyanga Hapugalle playing consistent golf with a one under par finish. Rohitha Silva came a close Runner up just one stroke behind.

On the following day, the conditions seemed tougher with the wind factor coming in to play and Dr Janaka Gallangoda, who won this event in 2011 clinched the President’s Prize with a 4 over par and Druvi Sirisena missed out by just one stroke to end up as the Runner up.

The entire weekend was spiced with many activities for the family members of the golfers and cumulated with a grand Awards Ceremony.

The new NEGC membership card that doubles up as Loyalty Card was also issued to the President, Maj Gen Srinath Rajapakse by the Captain Firaz Hameed at this Tournament.

Winner – Priyanga Hapugalle – 70 Nett
Runner up – Mr Rohitha Silva – 71 Nett

Presidents Prize

Winner – Dr Janaka Gallangoda – 75 Nett
Runner Up – Druvi Sirisena – 76 Nett

Aitken Cup

Winner – Mr Rohitha Silva – 152 Nett
Runner Up – Dr Janaka Gallangoda – 153 Nett
