Obituary- Late Mr Charles Schokman Former Manager Wharf Dept @ Walker Sons & Co. Ltd Colombo Sri Lanka
Dear All – Yasmin, Yvette Mike, Mylo and I were saddened to learn of the demise of Ex-Walkers Re-Union Club one time “Evergreen Eloquent Columnist” Charles Schokman Former Manager Wharf Dept @ Walker Sons & Co. Ltd Colombo Sri Lanka.
I knew Charles as a Senior Executive of Walker Sons & Co Ltd when I joined the Accounts Department on February 1 1968
that was headed by the Chief Accountant The Late Deshamany Professsor Tony Furkhan, my mentor n later years.
Charles was very popular in Melbourne and was heading the Seniors Club. He and his adorable Spouse Claudette extended an invitation to Yasmin & Myself when we visited Melbourne in September 2015 as he had organized a Luncheon Event for the Seniors.
Charles was amazingly gracious upon hearing of my visit to permit a few Ex Oman Friends including The Late Neil Soysa the founding President of The Sri Lankan Community Social Club Oman and a few Ex-Walkers Reunion Club members to grace the occasion giving Yasmin & myself opportunity to meet Melbourne Friends in one platform.
Charles was famous for his weekly Articles captioned “Sunday Choice”. I subsequently learnt that Charles & Claudette moved
to Berwick and were neighbours to Errol & Marina from Oman and Parents of my GodDaughter [name withheld for privacy reasons]
His demise has caused a great void to me and my family and to the Ex-Walkers Re-Union Club.
May the Good & Merciful Lord give Claudette, Fiona & Chris and their Bereaved Family the Strength to face this moment of grief very courageously.
We shall remember him in our Prayers. May His Beautiful Soul Rest in the Safe Arms of the Risen Lord.
On another note what an irony that two of his staff Sheila from Canada & Myrtle from Queensland who worked under the Late Charles Schokman had participated in an Ex-Walkers Reunion Club get together in the Pearl of the Indian Ocean a few days ago.
They may have perhaps left the Shores of the Paradise Isle oblivion that we lost an amazing Human Being from our midst. In late June 2026 Charles lost one of his Lieutenants Glen Ragell, a dear friend and God Father to my Family when we arrived in Canada in November 1999.
The Celebration Funeral is on 17th September 2026 at Berwick Church of Christ, No.446, Centre Road, Berwick.
