Sri Lanka’s Changing Political Landscape: Why Public Support Is Growing-by Harold Gunatillake

Two years ago, Sri Lanka voted for change. They voted for 48 per cent. Today, that number is over 75 per cent. How is it possible that, even with the cost of living still high, a President’s popularity goes up?
The answer is on the street. For the first time in decades, people feel the law is equal for everyone. From shops selling expired goods being raided… to big corruption cases finally being opened… people see a government that is not stealing from them.
This government did not promise magic. It promised discipline. Fuel is available. Medicine is back on the shelves. Schools are open. The lights stay on. Small things, but after 2022, small things are everything.
People aren’t saying life is easy. They are saying — for the first time — we trust where we are going. The pain is shared. The future is being built honestly. That is not just popularity.
That is trust. That is why the masses stand with President Anura.
