Viduranga Vilochana Gunasekera is a multilayered personality a native of Matale has had his primary education up to year five at the village school then after the scholarship examination triumph had studied at Ananda College from 1998 to 2007. is a Software Engineer having passed out from the University of Moratuwa 2008 to2011 as a Bachelor of Science in information technology Viduranga is a Communicator, Cricket Analyst of SLC ,Commentator, Lyricist , Novelist , founder and CEO of Crickvidu Pvt Ltd You Tuber focussing on Sri Lanka cricket analysis maintaining an active public community , IT officer cum System Administrator at the Independent Television Network since August 2012 to date.
Aa a cricket analyst Viduranga is a professional who uses data analytics to improve the performance of cricket teams and in particular of individual players. Viduranga analyse match statistics, player performance and other pertinent data to deliver insights that can influence policymaking on and off the field. Viduranga’s you tube is very popular when Sri Lanka play an international cricket fixture as he analyses the finer points in the proposed fixture. Which invariably his analyses are spot on viewed by many.
When Viduranga was tiny his dream had been to become a cricketer. In year 2007 he recollects reading a supplement in the Lakbima newspaper about a tour of Sri Lanka to Pakistan.He has had a dream to go on this tour as Muralidharan’s supporting bowler. His father had not wanted Viduranga to become a cricketer but for him to study to rise in life. He had told , in that case he should pass the scholarship examination, go to a Colombo school to play cricket. At that time Viduranga had not known how the preparation for the scholarship examination was but sans attending to extra classes had stubbornly studied past papers had given his all to succeed and triumphed to enter Ananda College.
His cricket fever had existed for the first four years in school had attended cricket practices been a member of junior cricket teams but owing to pressure from home to study had to leave playing cricket though very reluctantly. Owing to this decision Viduranga had even refrained from watching cricket for some time. But later instantaneously he had got the opportunity for announcing at school events. But he had thought that once he is employed will join a club to play cricket. Viduranga had pursued his studies while involved in the school media unit. At his first attempt had triumphed in the university entrance to be selected to the University of Moratuwa to follow Bachelor of Science course in year 2008 in information technology .During this time Viduranga had .been adjudicated among the top ten in ‘Thurunu Shakthi’. He had been called for an interview at the ITN was selected hence Viduranga had to intelligently balance both paths prudently.
From His younger days Viduranga has had the craze and trend to follow cricket statistics on cricketers , teams by analysing by graphs comparing and contrasting facts of individual cricketers and teams in world cricket.With these he was able to compare with conclusions in newspapers and in television programs. His enthusiasm had grown to tall altitudes while he was attached to ITN Lakhanda ‘ Kreeda’ unit by which he was used as a system administrator at ITN .Viduranga had got the opportunity to attend to cricket media conferences as no one in ITN was keen to attend. Viduranga had excelled as a cricket commentator at ITN initially at provincial tournaments.

It had then struck Viduranga to commence a you tube channel named as ‘VIDU” not essentially cricket but on other varied subjects. On Cricket he had used his you tube channel as a fan not as an analyst.When his you tube became a bit known he had come to know cricketers, coaches and administrators. By this Viduranga was able to gather information about cricket which was a plus mark to nurture his you tube channel. He endeavoured to be an independent person between the player and the spectator. He had later developed little by little to bring his ‘Crickvidu’ to unprecedented tall elevations, to what is today.
Some say that Viduranga is the best cricket analyst in Sri Lanka which he reluctantly does not accept. As Viduranga’s cricket analysis capabilities were enhanced to tall elevations he had been able to meet and talk top cricketers like Joe Root too having searched his past data and even watched him batting at practices..Viduranga had spoken to him and told him that he is dismissed when sweeping a ball pitched on middle and leg, when he is invariably gets out caught on the leg boundary area which he agreed. The other English cricketers too had listened to this with interest joined him in the conversation. The media Manager too had told Viduranga, ‘a good job’. Likewise all batsmen do have weak points which prove to their down fall .This is true for any cricketer to convince via a ‘match up’ made with all previous statistics. A analysis could be made about any batsman or bowler by comparing the strengths and weaknesses. To dismiss a batsmen an analysis could be made by studying to which stroke the batsman is weak and the number of times he had been dismissed in comparable fashion previously etc. also having studied on net run rate, par score etc . Viduranga had thought how a method to dismiss a batsman by a preparing a related ‘match-up’.Viduranga has had a sense to back him and the knack to tell to which side a batsman is more probable to score. He recollected that while playing in school he stations the best fielder in that particular catching position when he bowls. This ploy he recollects applying to David Warner who had scored three centuries against us. After a ‘match up’ Viduranga had suggested Mahesh Theekshana to bowl around the wicket yorker length to David Warner which proved fruitful to dismiss him.. The entire series Warner had been trapped in that fashion. After which Viduranga had got confidence to do ‘match ups’ for key players to be dismissed. He recollects how he had Ibrahim Zadram of Afghanistan trapped in the outfield naming the precise fielder position too.
It is learnt that Viduranga has forwarded his views and suggestions to the Chairman of the transformation board of the Sri Lanka Cricket Eran Wickremaratne who had accepted the proposals had forwarded through the secretary to the numerous related units. Viduranga while returning from the Asia Cup had spoken to Eran Wickremaratne in the flight and discussed further about his proposals and suggestions as a data analyst .Viduranga believes that via his proposals and suggestions the players could be motivated too.through his communications. During a recent television interview Viduranga aired his views to enhance performance of Dasun Shanaka (to remain calm at the crease not be in haste to score quick runs to play the spinners well). Charith Asalanka ( he is famous for his slog sweep which is his downfall too, hence to bat longer avoiding to sweep ,he is a talented batsman) Kamil Mishara ( he takes time to settle but he scores quickly when settled advises to play his natural game as he has scored heavily in domestic and LPL matches) Wannindu Hasaranga ( His bowling is perfect but many batsmen has started to attack which he has remedied now, his batting he shows urgency but could make runs) Mahesh Theekshana ( is in a bad patch who plays with commitment matured than his age at present in crossroads but believes in his strengths) Chamika Karunaratne (plays well at domestic but not at international level a hard experimenter.) Matheesha Pathirana ( has come to recognition form a very young age, bowled well at IPL, domestic and at international level prone to injuries , should bowl devoid of wides, still young ) Dunnith Wellalage ( A very shrewd player who keeps pressure to himself a good fighting allrounder) All comments made by Viduranga at a television dialogue after following them closely in recent LPL matches. During the said television dialogue Viduranga also paid a tribute to Sanath Jayasuriya for his contributions to our cricket having revolutionised the power play period with his lusty hitting which was later emulated by other test playing countries. Viduranga claimed that it was Sanath Jayasuriya made many interested in cricket helped immensely to draw spectators to venues. He held the record of 189 in an ODI match against England which stood for decades. Viduranga added that after playing in a fewer number of ODI’S Sanath has won the most ‘Man of the Match’ awards during his era.Also he reminisced the yeoman service rendered by Arjuna Ranathunga as a shrewd skipper who was the spearhead in our 1996 world cup triumph. reminded that his name is etched in gold as the best number five batsman ever in the annals of one day internationals . Viduranga at the same dialogue commented on Ramanulla Gurbaz the young Afghanistan cricketer who plays with a huge pressure which was observed when playing for Jaffna Kings in the LPL. During the time when Afghanistan rule was changed, noted to be very friendly who invariably gets up late when at breakfast seats at an isolated table,but was worried of the plight of women who were barred from working and other restrictions. Gurbaz is based in Dubai had added he had sent his baggage separately had visited his parents and returned for the LPL.He had confessed that for even any powerful person the plight of his families could not be transformed or rehabilitated.. Viduranga added with all such compressions Gurbaz has to perform at the middle. Viduranga also commented on the attitudes of Gary Kirsten as the new coach who is one who does not believe in constant changes of players ,captains in particular, one who has huge plans to develop our cricket. The view of Viduranga is for any coach is to allow a sensible time to show progress not instant success. Viduranga was furious about changing players and captains when a world cup is in sight. Viduranga’s ultimate aim and ambition is to become a force as a cricket analyst of the SLC to contribute his thoughts and share to guide our Cricket team towards a world cup triumph by enlightening his present abilities.
Viduranga had met his future wife Hasini Erandi when he was only eighteen years old.On one day Viduranga had visited ITN to record children news program .In the visitors division ad seen his future wife seated had got the feeling similar to that lightening had struck him. Hasini too had seen him for the first time had commenced a converstion. After she knew he was an Anandian had inquired he knew Jayasekera Sir incidentally was a reputed teacher, ,the class teacher of Viduranga in year eight.He had replied as a good Sir when inquired from Hasini had said he was her father.Although Viduranga was out of school Hasini was stil school going so he had stayed with patience. When Hasini comes to ITN for ‘Tikiri Peya’ recording Viduranga was to have an interested glimpse of her through a window. Though the duo had occasionally met and spoken Hasini had never in her wildest dreams thought Viduranga would be her future husband. The ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition the brainchild of Mahinda Rajapaksa was hailed by Viduranga.On February 10th in year 2019 the duo had met at the BMICH.After the conclusion of the live of ‘ Deyata Kirula’ duo had got into a conversation while leaving the BMICH premises.While returning in the van Viduranga had taken his wisest decision by asking her calling ‘Nangi’ contact number as he was unable to convey as there were others in the van. Although none had expressed willingness and love Viduranga knew very well that the same idea was in the minds of both.On the 15th February the message sent via a sms expressing his ‘love’ received a positive reply on the 16th February. During the next seven years the duo have had to triumph over obstacles with in between patches of numerous achievements. It was in year 2012 the two had informed the respective parents about the love.Though had a number of obstacles the duo had hurdled over somehow. Viduranga did thank those who stood by him ,several persons as Vajira Aiyya, Udam Aiyya, Anu Akka, Pooni Akka, Asoka Sir and Sure Aiyya.All of them were prepared to Viduranga any sort of ‘sup’, not withstanding the fact of the willing patronage of the parental duos.
