All educational institutions to remain closed until further notice

All schools, pre-schools, pirivens, private tuition classes and universities would remain closed until further notice due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Education Ministry said yesterday.

Education Minister G. L Peiris said that while the continuation of children’s education was paramount, the government had to ensure their safety.

Schools and universities would be reopened as soon as the situation permitted, Prof. Peiris said.

“We will inform the date on the reopening of schools and universities three days in advance,” he said.
