ADVERTISE WITH eLANKA
A few months ago, a friend from Sydney “rang” me, and in the process of our conversation, asked me whether I was contributing to eLanka. Not being a computer-geek at the time,I told him that, when last I heard the name, it was Sri Lanka, which of course was Ceylon until 1972.
He laughed and spelt the name e L a n k a, and I said to him “eLanka”, what the hell does the letter e” stand for? “He laughed again(which was a bit rude), & said, “Des, come off it!, we are in the computer-age now. We have left the bronze age, the ice-age, the iron age and also the stone-age behind. We are now totally in the electronic age & that is what the “e” is for.
This was like going back to school again. Going back just a couple of years, I was’nt about to have anything to do with the Internet. I was still “typing” my articles for “The Lanka Times”, getting various other friends to “transfer” these, “computer-style “to the Newspaper, I had lived through 75 years without all this nonsense, then, only began to appreciate emails because I thought that these were “express-mail” replacing what was being fondly referred to as “snail-mail”. Writing letters, putting them in a stamped, adressed envelope and “posting” them was nearly no more. However, “express-Lanka” did’nt sound right & I am pleased to tell you, my readers that, from one little 4 letter word, I have now become another 4 letter word. I have gone from computer-“geek ” to computer- “guru”. I now write my own “electronic-mail” & am a very proud member of “electronic- Lanka” or “eLanka”, a little 6 letter word that brings the World to EVERYONE. Sri Lankans “down under”, especially .
I find it very difficult to believe that “advertising” on eLanka is so thoroughly cost-effective, it boggles the mind. I suppose one of the reasons for “pain-free” ads is because, being totally electronic, printing costs are negligable, but believe me, because eLanka is what is termed a “team-effort” & also includes “Staff ” back home in Sri lanka who have to be paid, “donations” are sometimes necessary in order for you to “read” with pleasure, everything that your WEEKLY NEWSLETTER provides. You will be very pleased with the superb photographic library, keep up to date with all events that are happening around you, & generally keeps you “in the loop” as regards news, views & interviews both in Lanka, in Australia & “AROUND THE WORLD” which is a great title for a song. Neil Jayasekera & ” your’s truly ” look forward to your support in making “eLanka” not only the BIGGEST,but the BEST “Household Name”
