Alcaraz to Miss Wimbledon

Source:Thuppahis

NEWS ITEM at ??

Carlos Alcaraz‘s hopes of regaining his Wimbledon crown have been crushed after the World No.2 was forced to withdraw from the grass court grand slam due to an ongoing wrist injury. The Spaniard won back-to-back titles at the All England club before going down to World No.1 Jannik Sinner in last year’s decider, and his absence leaves the Italian as a massive favourite to retain his title this year.

Alcaraz has been plagued by the wrist injury since last month’s Barcelona Open, causing him to withdraw from subsequent events in Madrid and Rome. Alcaraz was already set to miss the upcoming French Open – where he is the reigning two-time champion. And he’s been forced to pull out of the upcoming grass court swing, in news that has left the tennis world shattered.

“My recovery is going well and I’m feeling much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to play, I am obliged to withdraw from both Queen’s and Wimbledon,” Alcaraz revealed on social media. “These are two really special tournaments for me and I’ll miss them a lot. We’ll keep working to come back as soon as possible.” Alcaraz is also a time-time winner at Queen’s.

It continues a rollercoaster year for the Spaniard after he won the Australian Open title to become the youngest man to clinch the career Grand Slam. He also won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award last month off the back of an incredible 2025 in which the 23-year-old claimed an ATP Tour-leading eight titles, including two majors.

But Alcaraz cast doubts over his immediate future when discussing his wrist injury and withdrawal from the French Open at last month’s Laureus Awards. “I have a very long career ahead of me, with many years still to come. Forcing things at this Roland Garros could really harm me for future tournaments,” he said at the time.

Wrist injuries are notoriously tricky for tennis players, with former US Open champion Dominic Thiem forced to retire in 2024 after his own wrist issues. 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro was also plagued by wrist complaints during his injury-ravaged career.

Tennis fans gutted by Carlos Alcaraz injury news
It makes Alcaraz’s decision to prioritise his long-term health completely understandable, with the Spaniard cautious not to rush back to competitive action too soon. And fans have flooded the 23-year-old with messages after his latest heartbreaking update to wish him a speedy recovery.
