T20 World Cup

The Cricket Australia National Selection Panel (NSP) has today named a 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be hosted by England and Wales.

Australia will finalise its preparations with warm-up fixtures against South Africa, England and the West Indies before opening its World Cup campaign against South Africa on 13 June at Old Trafford.

Sophie Molineux will captain Australia for the first time at a World Cup, with left-arm fast bowler, Lucy Hamilton to make her World Cup debut. Fresh off her national team debut, Tahlia Wilson will be Australia’s travelling reserve player.

Australia squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
Nicola Carey (Hobart Hurricanes / North Hobart CC)
Ashleigh Gardner (Sydney Sixers / Bankstown CC) – vice-captain
Kim Garth (Melbourne Stars / Dandenong CC)
Lucy Hamilton (Brisbane Heat / Sunshine Coast CC)
Grace Harris (Brisbane Heat / Western Suburbs Cricket Club)
Alana King (Perth Scorchers / Midland Guildford CC)
Phoebe Litchfield (Sydney Thunder / Sydney University CC)
Tahlia McGrath (Adelaide Strikers / Glenelg CC) – vice-captain
Sophie Molineux (Melbourne Renegades / Dandenong Cricket Club) – captain
Beth Mooney (Perth Scorchers / Sandgate-Redcliffe CC)
Ellyse Perry (Sydney Sixers)
Megan Schutt (Adelaide Strikers / Sturt CC)
Annabel Sutherland (Melbourne Stars / Prahran CC)
Georgia Voll (Sydney Thunder / Sandgate-Redcliffe District CC)
Georgia Wareham (Melbourne Renegades / Essendon Maribyrnong Park CC)
Tahlia Wilson (Sydney Thunder / St George-Sutherland CC) *Travelling reserve

National Selector, Shawn Flegler said:
“These squads are never easy to select but we’re confident with the balance and stability we’ve got across the group. It’s an experienced group and one we believe is capable of winning the World Cup.

“Sophie has already made her mark as captain and built a strong connection with the group over the last couple of tours, so we’re looking forward to seeing what this side can achieve under her leadership.

“Darcie Brown was unlucky to miss out but the decision was based on the conditions we’re expecting and the makeup of the side. With at least six right-arm pace options in the mix and raw pace expected to be less effective, we opted to go with Lucy Hamilton who offers something different as a left-arm quick.

“Grace Harris comes into the side having missed the recent series against the West Indies. She’s a handy all-round option and someone who can take the game away from an opposition.

“We’re pleased to welcome Annabel Sutherland back from an extended break as well, she’s fresh and ready to go and will play an important role throughout the tournament.”

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be broadcast live, exclusive, and free on Prime Video in Australia.
