REMEMBERING Col. Rex Fernando – Brother to Old Antonians Curley Fernando, Brother-in- law to Mohan Gomes and Nephew to Dylan
The funeral is scheduled for 2.30pm on Wednesday 3rd May 2023 at East Chapel, Freemantle Cemetery.
Col Rex Fernando was an exceptional officer and gentleman whose integrity was of the highest order. He had his education at St Sylvester’s College, Kandy where he had excelled as a boxer. His younger son Romesh followed his father’s footsteps and was a champion boxer in Australia.
Rex was a Sandhurst trained officer who was initially in 3 Feild Regiment CA.
When I joined 4 SLA in 1965, he was a living in officer in Panagoda, SLA officers mess. He was always like an elder brother to the YOs ,down to earth and ever ready help us find our feet as well as join in the fun and frolic. His interests were reading and listening to classical music. He married Sarojini and had two sons Rajiv and Romesh. After retirement the family emigrated to Perth Australia . We will miss him very much.
My wife Dilhani and I extend our deepest sympathies to Saro, Rajiv and Romesh and the rest of the family.
