Wonderful News… Dr Buddy Reid Inducted to the Hall of Fame by Table Tennis Australia

eLanka is delighted to share the wonderful news that Dr Barclay George “Buddy” Reid has been formally inducted into the Table Tennis Australia Hall of Fame, one of the highest honours bestowed by the sport’s national governing body. This prestigious recognition celebrates a lifetime of exceptional achievement, dedication, and service to table tennis, both in Sri Lanka and Australia.

Dr Buddy Reid’s sporting journey is truly inspirational. Born in Sri Lanka, he first rose to prominence as an elite athlete in the late 1950s and early 1960s, becoming a multiple-time Sri Lankan national table tennis champion. His remarkable versatility saw him also represent the country in cricket, earning the rare distinction of being a double international sportsman—a testament to his talent, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

After migrating to Australia, Dr Reid continued to build an extraordinary sporting legacy. Rather than slowing down, he reached new heights in the veterans and masters categories, representing Australia with distinction on the world stage. Among his many accolades are winning the World Over-75 Singles Championship in Spain in 2016 and the World Over-75 Doubles Championship in the USA in 2018, achievements that place him among the elite veteran table tennis players globally.

His Hall of Fame induction by Table Tennis Australia recognises not only his international titles and national success, but also his sustained contribution to the sport over many decades. The Hall of Fame honour is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding performance, longevity, and impact—criteria that Dr Reid has met comprehensively.

Beyond his competitive success, Dr Buddy Reid is widely admired for his sportsmanship, humility, and leadership. He has served as a role model to younger generations and fellow veterans alike, embodying the values of dedication, resilience, and lifelong engagement in sport. His achievements continue to inspire members of the Sri Lankan and Australian sporting communities.

This induction is a proud moment for Dr Reid, his family, and the broader Sri Lankan diaspora. eLanka congratulates Dr Buddy Reid on this richly deserved honour and celebrates his extraordinary contribution to the world of table tennis.
